I was recently running Spybot and ran across Win32.PornPopUp. After being unable to remove it I searched online and came across this forum post on these forums: http://forums.whatthetech.com/Second_compu…Up_t112715.html. I followed the instructions listed and have two reports, one from DDS and another from Malwarebyte, both are listed below. I would greatly appreciate any and all help with my problem, thanks in advance!!!

Hi and Welcome,

Please do the following:

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable.
  • Double click the exe file.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries
First of all, thank you for the help, I really appreciate it. Distressingly, I've tried to run the scan four times and it has been unable to complete thus far. The first time I received an error message stating that windows had to close an unresponsive program (the scan). My computer then proceeded to freeze and I had to reboot. The second scan was stopped short due to a brief power outage. The third and fourth were stopped mid-scan with blue screens. I've included what is hopefully pertinent info below from both blue screens but I don't know what to try now. 1st Blue screen: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: awdiipog.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA [usual brief section on if is the first time seeing the blue screen don't worry…] Technical information: ***Stop: 0x00000050 (0xE76D3000, 0x00000000, 0xAF9A3C3E, 0x00000001) ***awdiipog.sys - Address AF9A3C3E base at AF9A3000, Date Stamp 4b274f8d [typical physical memory dump completed] 2nd Blue screen: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT [usual brief section on if is the first time seeing the blue screen don't worry…] Technical information: ***Stop: 0x0000004E (0x00000007, 0x0008962E, 0x00000001, 0x00000000) [typical physical memory dump completed] The only thing that wasn't the same in your instructions was that I only had the C:/ drive shown in my list of drives and I wasn't prompted to run an initial scan. Thanks for your time again.
Hi,

That gave me the information I needed.

Please do the following:

NOTE: It is VERY important that you allow the recovery console to be installed.

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
Sorry for the response time, my work schedule is prohibitive in the manner of quick responses. I've included the C:/ComboFix.txt below, please let me know if you would prefer it in attachment form (I read that I shouldn't attach in the forum guidelines). Hi the log is showing two antivirus programs installed can you advise? AV: avast! Antivirus *On-access scanning disabled* (Updated) {7591DB91-41F0-48A3-B128-1A293FD8233D} AV: Norton 360 *On-access scanning disabled* (Updated) {A5F1BC7C-EA33-4247-961C-0217208396C4} they could be conflicting with one another and causing alot of your issues. Was one uninstalled and there are remnants remaining? If so I can give you a link for a removal tool if you can advise which one you would like to keep.
I'm a computer novice, sorry. When I ran the scan I had thought that I turned off the conflicting antivirus but obviously I did it incorrectly. Preferably I would like to keep both but if I should only keep one I'd like avast. When I was turning off both I just turned the shields off. Please let me know what I should do differently, sorry for the difficulty.
Hi,

You should only have one antivirus, more than one can cause system slowdowns, conflicts and crashes.

use the Norton removal tool to remove all the left overs after removing norton from your Add/ Remove programs:

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky Online Scanner:
1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
3. Click Run at the Security prompt. The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database. Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

How is the computer running? Are there any outstanding issues? Please post a fresh DDS log and Attach.txt
My computer is running normally and when I ran a spybot search it came up with nothing even after a reboot. I ran the dds and it said that my anti virus was up, hopefully it didn't interfere but windows was telling me that I had no anti virus running during the scan. Hi

Log looks clean, just some housekeeping to do now,

Please do the following:

Click Start >Run type notepad into the run box click OK
Click Format and make certain that Word Wrap is NOT checked.

Copy and paste the text inside of the code box into the open notepad
Note: There must be NO blank lines in front of the pasted text, but ensure that there is a blank line at the end of the text, otherwise the registry merge will not work.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units\{DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A}]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A}]

Now go to File > and click Save As,
From the drop down menu at the top of the box choose Desktop as the location to save this file.
Go down to the File Name box and type in fixme.reg as the file name, then choose All Files as the save as file type.
Then click the save button.
Once you have clicked the save button, close Notepad.

You should now see a file on your desktop that looks like this:

[external image: Posted Image]

Locate the fixme.reg icon on your desktop and double click it, an information box will pop up asking if you want to merge the information in the file into the registry, click YES.

Once the file has run, the information will have merged with your registry so you can delete fixme.reg from your desktop as you won't be needing it any more

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

  • It is good security practice to change your passwords to all your online accounts on a fairly regular basis, this is especially true after an infection. Refer to this Microsoft article
Strong passwords: How to create and use them
Then consider a password keeper, to keep all your passwords safe.

  • Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    • Click on the Security tab
    • Click Reset all zones to default level
    • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
    • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
    • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

  • Download TFC to your desktop
    • Close any open windows.
    • Double click the TFC icon to run the program
    • TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
    • Click the Start button to begin the process.
    • Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
    • The program should not take long to finish it's job
    • Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
    • if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean
It's normal after running TFC cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

  • WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
    • Green to go
    • Yellow for caution
    • Red to stop
WOT has an addon available for both Firefox and IE

  • Keep a backup of your important files - Now, more than ever, it's especially important to protect your digital files and memories. This article is full of good information on alternatives for home backup solutions.

  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed.

  • In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles:
    Think Prevention.
PC Safety and Security–What Do I Need?.

**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.

Please respond one last time so we can consider the thread resolved and close it, thank-you.
Thank you so much for your help. Your posts are invaluable to a computer novice like me, I'll definitely be sending something through paypal for your time. Thanks again!
I have one quick question, sorry for the double post. When I restarted my computer from the TFC reboot I still had the 2 second recovery mode option that was created from combofix even though I uninstalled it. Is this something I should get rid of / fix or should I just leave it alone?
