Were you able to install the latest version of Java on your computer? How are things running? What issues (if any) are you still experiencing with your computer?
unfortunately no, checked in the programmes list and there is still one entry for Java although i ran the JavaRA, entry in programmes list is "Java ™ 6 update 7" back to about both failed attempts, download manager says:- Maximum retries exceeded, JRE-6u20-windows-i586.exe 15914 kb Download Failed JDK-6u20-windows-i586.exe 78514 kb Download Failed As to how the PC is running, i haven't really tried doing anything, nothing seems different but that's not to say its not fixed the malware, Will we do anymore scans to double check?, or do you feel we have done all we can?, re the Java, can you suggest what i can do?. Just noticed still no sound, either at start up or live streaming, i.tunes or U-Tube, Also i mentioned previously about all 30 apps running at start-up?
I think the link you want me to go to maybe wrong?, the link in your message reverts back to post 57 in this thread/topic, but i thought you meant to re try the previous instructions and so i followed your previous instructions and got up to the bit where i go to the Programmes folder and remove Java, i clicked on remove and on doing that it produced a Fatal Error message during the removal, can you think what i can do to sort this out, ?, one other thing another mistake i just realised is on saving the new Java to desktop you said to close all browsers, i forgot and had WTT still on in a closed tab,
Try this program for uninstalling the Java.

RevoUninstaller
Download and install Revo Uninstaller
  • Double click the Revo Uninstaller icon on your desktop to start the program
  • Scroll through the listed programs and Right Click on the program you wish to uninstall
  • From the pop out menu choose Uninstall
  • Click Yes to the confirmation dialogue
  • In the next window select the Advanced mode
  • Click Next to start uninstalling the program
  • Answer Yes to confirm the uninstall
  • When the program has completed the four steps, click Next to allow the program to search for leftovers
  • Once complete, click Next, then Finish
  • Repeat the above steps for any other programs you wish to remove.
OK, done that, crazy no sign of Java!!! in the list, so don't know what that was about!, re the link you previously mentioned,?http://forums.whatthetech.com/lost_google_…493#entry657493 was that wrong?
It was the correct link. I wanted you to visit this link here; http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp and download the latest version of Java from it.
Hello again, OK, while waiting i have successfully now downloaded and installed the version you wanted me to do in the first place, re-booted and went back and verified that it was installed correctly and that all is well, so that's now done and working, Is it possible to take a minute and return to the question about restoring the sound that disappeared earlier on in the malware removal, as well as the 30 or so processes that start up at reboot,?
Lets look at the startup issue first.

Hello SweetTech, Below is the registry file "Look.exe" you asked for from "Run", ( Below that is the second you asked for,) Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] "Kernel and Hardware Abstraction Layer"="KHALMNPR.EXE" "AVG9_TRAY"="C:\\PROGRA~1\\AVG\\AVG9\\avgtray.exe" "NvCplDaemon"="RUNDLL32.EXE C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup" "NvMediaCenter"="RUNDLL32.EXE C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit" "LogitechQuickCamRibbon"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Logitech\\Logitech WebCam Software\\LWS.exe\" /hide" "Windows Defender"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Windows Defender\\MSASCui.exe\" -hide" "Smapp"="C:\\Program Files\\Analog Devices\\SoundMAX\\SMTray.exe" "SiSUSBRG"="C:\\WINDOWS\\SiSUSBrg.exe" "QuickTime Task"="\"C:\\Program Files\\QuickTime\\QTTask.exe\" -atboottime" "NeroFilterCheck"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\NeroCheck.exe" "Logitech Hardware Abstraction Layer"="KHALMNPR.EXE" "iTunesHelper"="\"C:\\Program Files\\iTunes\\iTunesHelper.exe\"" "HP Software Update"="C:\\Program Files\\HP\\HP Software Update\\HPWuSchd2.exe" "eBayToolbar"="C:\\Program Files\\eBay\\eBay Toolbar2\\eBayTBDaemon.exe" "4oD"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Kontiki\\KHost.exe\" -all" "SunJavaUpdateSched"="\"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Java\\Java Update\\jusched.exe\"" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents] @="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\IMAIL] @="" "Installed"="1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MAPI] @="" "Installed"="1" "NoChange"="1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\OptionalComponents\MSFS] @="" "Installed"="1" Second result from "Run" Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "key"="SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run" "item"="Reader_sl" "hkey"="HKLM" "inimapping"="0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\ccApp] "key"="SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run" "item"="ccApp" "hkey"="HKLM" "inimapping"="0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\osCheck] "key"="SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run" "item"="osCheck" "hkey"="HKLM" "inimapping"="0"
Hello,

This program below may be what yo are looking for in regards to programs that are necessary to be set to run at startup.

You may wish to try StartupLite. Simply download this tool to your desktop and run it. It will explain any optional auto-start programs on your system, and offer the option to stop these programs from starting at startup. This will result in fewer programs running when you boot your system, and should improve performance.

I'm not really seeing anything out of the ordinary in your logs that can be the contribuing factor as to why your sound isn't working. At this point I think your best option would be to post in our Microsoft Windows forum here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/Microsoft_Windows_f119.html

They will be able to provide the best and fastest solution to that issue.

If you have no further issues with your computer, then please proceed with the following housekeeping procedures outlined below.

NEXT:

OTL Clean-Up
Clean up with OTL:
  • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the CLEANUP button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.
If you still have any tools or logs leftover on your computer you can go ahead and delete those off of your computer now.

NEXT:

Now that your system appears to be clean, there's just a few steps I'd like you to take to prevent any future infections.
  • System restore:
We will now clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

o Click on the Start button to open your Start Menu.
o Click on the Control Panel menu option.
o Click on the System and Maintenance menu option.
o Click on the System menu option.
o Click on System Protection in the left-hand task list.
o Create the manual restore point you should click on the Create button. When you press this button a prompt will appear asking you to provide a title for this manual restore point.
o Type in a title for the manual restore point and press the Create button.
o Close the System window after you have been advised that the procedure has been successfully completed.

o Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
o Select the More options tab
o Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Make sure you do this now, as your System Restore currently has infected files in it.

All Clean Speech

===> Make sure you've re-enabled any Security Programs that we may have disabled during the malware removal process. <===

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.
  • It is good security practice to change your passwords to all your online accounts on a fairly regular basis, this is especially true after an infection. Refer to this Microsoft article
Strong passwords: How to create and use them
then consider a password keeper, to keep all your passwords safe.
  • Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
  • SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX, it immunizes your PC against them.
  • SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program ( eg : TeaTimer, Windows Defender ) or there will be a conflict.
  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    • Click on the Security tab
    • Click Reset all zones to default level
    • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
    • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
    • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • ATF Cleaner - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
  • WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:
    • Green to go
    • Yellow for caution
    • Red to stop
WOT has an addon available for both Firefox and IE
  • Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from Here
    • If you choose to use Firefox, I highly recommend this add-on to keep your PC even more secure.
      • NoScript - for blocking ads and other potential website attacks
  • Keep a backup of your important files - Now, more than ever, it's especially important to protect your digital files and memories. This article is full of good information on alternatives for home backup solutions.
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed.
  • In light of your recent issue, I'm sure you'd like to avoid any future infections. Please take a look at these well written articles:
    Think Prevention.
PC Safety and Security–What Do I Need?.
**Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.

Please respond one last time so we can consider the thread resolved and close it, thank-you.

Cheers,
SweetTech.
