I''m currently having a bit of a problem with my modem and am unable to connect to the Internet on my desktop, so I had to switch to my laptop and use another Internet source to connect here. I can run everything on my desktop and post it on my laptop, but won't be able to connect to the Internet on my laptop until my ISP sends me a new modem.
Hello,

Thanks for letting me know. I have a number of steps for you to complete, but it may be easier to wait until your new modem is up and running. I'll give you the instructions now though:

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Please follow these steps on every PC that connects to your router:
  • Download, install, and update Malwarebytes AntiMalware (if it is already installed , just update it)
  • Disconnect all of the PCs from the router
  • Run a Quick Scan with MBAM, allow it to fix any problems it finds
  • Reboot
🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Reset DNS and Proxy Server Settings
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.
  • Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection for cable and DSL or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and choose Properties.
  • Click the Networking tab
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item.
  • Write down the settings in case you should need to change them back.
  • Select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically".
  • Click OK twice to get out of the properties screen and restart your computer.
  • If not prompted to reboot go ahead and reboot manually.
CAUTION: It's possible that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) requires specific DNS settings here. Make sure you know if you need these settings or not BEFORE you make any changes or you may lose your Internet connection. If you're sure you do not need a specific DNS address, then you may proceed.

Go to Control Panel and select Internet Options
  • Select the Connections TAB
  • Select LAN settings button
  • Ensure there is no tick in the Proxy Server box
  • Select OK and restart Internet explorer
IN I.E.
  • Go to Control Panel and select Internet Options
  • Select the Connections TAB
  • Select LAN settings button
  • Ensure there is no tick in the Proxy Server box
  • Select OK and restart Internet explorer
In Firefox
  • Open up Firefox
  • go to Tools and select the Options button:
  • Click on the Advanced button then the Network tab then Setttings
  • By default, the No Proxy option should be selected.
  • If it is set to anything else > reset it to No Proxy
  • then click on the OK button at the bottom of the window:
  • Click on the OK button again to close the Options window
🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Do a hard reset (back to factory defaults) on your router. A simple power cycle will not suffice - you must do a hard reset. Usually there is a small button to push on the back of the router, but check you router's documentation to be sure. When you set it back up change the default admin login and password.
