Suggestion: Could you remove the 4 character per word minimum on the Search button? i know this stops (or helps to stop) people searching for very common words. Example Search: Comments And Suggestions. this would return the 4 character minumum "Error" due to the user searching for "And" EDIT: Just tried it and it doesn't… oops I posted in a topic a while back that had the word FAN in it somewhere and i can't remember what topic it is. the seatch won't allow me to search for it. EDIT 2: Just realised i can look at my own posts via my profile :smack: This may not be possible but it's a suggestion none-the-less Regards Duey
I've sometimes wished for the same. But there are some fairly good arguments against. Plus this is a basic forum software default that would require some serious consideration before changing, even if possible. Best Regards
ok, not to worry. just thought it might be a good idea but as it turns out, it wasn't as good as i first thought! Cheers anyway Duey
This is a limitation of MySQL. Three word searches are possible, but create a huge performance hit. This will be fixed soon in a couple of ways. 1) Use the Sphinx search engine daemon that allows as little as two word searches, with little performance impact. 2) Make Google search as the forum's default search engine. This also produces results in order of relevance, unlike the forum search which is chronological.
