Hi, something extrange has occured to my system. Since a couple of days (with a malware alert from Adaware in between) when I open a DOS command line window in my Windows XP SP3 I get extrange characters, in particular the letters with accent appear as different characters. As I thought it had to be related with the codepage, I did "chcp" and the answer was that it was using codepage 1252, instead of the 850 it had to use. If I change codepage to 850 everything works OK. Looking to different forums I found that 1252 is the ANSI codepage (used by windows) and 850 should be the OEM codepage (used in DOS) and that both of them are controled by a key in the registry, ACP and OEMCP. Looking at them, they seem to be OK, ACP is 1252 and OEMCP is 850. I tried to put some (old DOS) commands in autoexec.nt and config.nt to correct the used codepage, with no success. What other things could be changing my codepage when I start the DOS command prompt? I'm afraid it could be the malware I referred to earlier, but I cannot find a way to have command prompt using 850 as the default or initial codepage. I also tried to restore the system to a control point several days ago, but the system was not able to restore to that point. So, any idea of help? Thanks for any help Javier
Found a solution in another forum, I'll post it here for general knowledge and for the case another one find same problem: (I'll try to do my best in transating into english): Open a DOS command line window. Right mouse click in the "C:" in the top left corner (propierties of the window), in the drop down menu, select properties, select the FONT and mark Lucida Console, then Apply (or Accept, don't know what an english windows will have in the button). It will ask if this to apply for the current window or for all the times the access is selected. I selected "all the times". Problem seems to be solved. What I don't know is if this parameter could also be choosed in the registry. Might be it would be easier to change there. regards.
