Hey there, Just replying from the last post with malware trouble. I have done what you said and have also saved a log from malwarebytes, whic i will post. I still have a problem when opening mozilla browser if i enyter in a website and press enter it will direct me to another website?? any suggestions?? Cheers Free
Free,

Please do not attach any logs, just copy and paste them in. You need to run Malwarebytes again and this time check Remove Selected, not Take No Action, Running it that way did not accomplish much.

Then run this tool

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2
  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).
Hey, Replying to Gooredfix reply? Have done a scan and still have the problem?? Good Morning Free

Sometimes it takes running a few different scans to find the culprit

Did you run Malwarebytes again and remove those two entries it found ?

Drag Gooredfix to the trash and redownload it and run it again.

Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Next:

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system…click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save… button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.

To re-enable your Emulation drivers, double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Re-enable button to re-enable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_enable which will appear on your desktop.

Your Emulation drivers are now re-enabled.
Hey there,

Still having difficulty with my computer? Every now and then i get my mouse going crazy as if someone has hijacked my computer. Upon opening a browser (Mozilla Firefox) or go to a website it directs me to a totally different website such as. (googlesyndication.com). Have used Gmer, Defogger and Gooredfix to scan my computer but doesn't seem to help that much???

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers

Good Morning,

Its possible that your hard disk controller is infected. atapi.sys

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
Hey there, replying from previous issue regarding Combo Fix!

Combo fix seems pretty good i have done what was required and have included the logs below. How do you know if it has removed the infected files, I did have one issue when running Combo Fix it just said something about MS-Dos had encountered an illegal procedure and said to quit or ignore, i just clicked ignore??

Just wondering if some of my Mal-ware removal software is okay to use?

Thanks Heaps

Good Morning,

If you look up at the very beginning of the Combofix log under OTHER DELETIONS , atapi.sys is your hard disk controller and it was infected and replaced by a back up file.

Ask Toolbar <–Not malicious but also not recommended as it does track your surfing and delivers adds, you can uninstall it via Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Internet Explorer 7 <–You need to update this to IE8, its more secure than 7, you can do this through windows updates. Open IE and go to Tools> Windows updates and download and install all critical updates including IE 7

How are things running now ?
Hi There, Have updated IE to 8 and deleted ask toolbar. My computer when starting up runs very slow and it takes about 5-10 minutes for Mozilla Firefox browser to open and usually comes up with a error on script pop up? Other than that everything seems okay. Cheers Free
