Hello.

Were you able to run DDS and GMER?

Download and run DDS

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results soon.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results and then click Ok.
  • The black and message box window shall then disappear.
  • Please save both log files on your desktop and post the DDS.txt and zip up and attach Attach.txt as instructed.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. Information on A/V control HERE

Download and Run GMER

We will use GMER to scan for rootkits. This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop. Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here.

  • Close any and all open programs, as this process may crash your computer.
  • Double click [external image: Posted Image] or [external image: Posted Image] on your desktop.
  • When you have done this, close all running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program. Right-click and select Run As Administrator… if you are using Vista
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.

If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system… Click NO.

  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Please UNCHECK the following:
    • Sections
    • Registry
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show all (Don't miss this one!)
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] and wait for the scan to finish.
  • If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • Push [external image: Posted Image] and save the logfile to your desktop.
  • Copy and Paste the contents of that file in your next post.

If GMER doesn't work in Normal Mode try running it in Safe Mode

Note: Do Not run any program while GMER is running
*Note*: Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any actions on "<— ROOKIT" entries
Ok well the first two links you gave me for the DDS…

the first one went to a new page [blank] - http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr
the second one went to a page with a lot of text gibberish/code - http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds/dds.pif

but the GMER worked just fine, even though it took about 3 hours to run.

Here is the GMER logfile:

GMER 1.0.15.15281 - http://www.gmer.net
Rootkit scan 2010-02-25 02:15:56
Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
Running: iy4qp606.exe; Driver: C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\pxtdypog.sys

SIDE NOTE:
now even norton is poppin up now, and whenever i close the window, another pops up, so i just hide it in the corner now..
it says : has detected a virus, yaddayadda, backdoor.tidserv!inf

Thanks in advance-
Hello.

That's fine, appears you're infected with a rootkit here.

Unfortunatly One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Let me know what you decide to do.

If you wish to continue, please follow the instructions below please…

We'll start with Combofix and see what happens and then some more steps may be required to deal with this infection and clean your computer up.

Download and Run ComboFix

Note to readers of this post other than the starter of this thread:
ComboFix is a VERY POWERFUL tool which should NOT BE USED without guidance of an expert.

Download Combofix from any of the links below, and save it to your desktop.
Link 1
Link 2

Please refer to this page for full instructions on how to run ComboFix.

  • Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are not sure how.
  • Double click ComboFix.exe to start the program. Agree to the prompts.
  • When ComboFix is finished, a log report (C:\ComboFix.txt) will open. Post back with it.
Leave your computer alone while ComboFix is running.

ComboFix will restart your computer if malware is found; allow it to do so.

Note: Please Do NOT mouseclick combofix's window while its running because it may call it to stall.
Alright.
Since I last posted, the virus got wayy worse.
But then one day I decided to reboot in safe mood. for some reason, that seemed to fix everything. or at least hide it…

but here's the combofix logfile:

Hello.

That looks a lot better to me.

Run ComboFix with CFScript

We will run ComboFix again. This time, the instructions are slightly different.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. Refer to this page if you are unsure how.
  • Open notepad (Start>Run>"notepad") and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
    DDS::
    uInternet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:5555
    uInternet Settings,ProxyOverride =
    Registry::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
    "AntiVirusOverride"=-
    "FirewallOverride"=-
    File::
    c:\windows\system32\XDva039.sys
    c:\windows\system32\XDva041.sys
    c:\windows\system32\XDva045.sys
    c:\windows\system32\XDva049.sys
    c:\windows\system32\XDva054.sys
    c:\windows\system32\XDva136.sys
    Driver::
    XDva039
    XDva041
    XDva045
    XDva049
    XDva054
    XDva136
    Liveco
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe. (This should be your desktop.)
    [external image: Posted Image]
Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt". Post back with that log.

Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Update and Scan with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to the Update tab
  • Select Check for Update and let MBAM download and install any available updates.
  • After the update is complete go to the Scanner tab.
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

How's your computer running now?
Well I'll start off by sayin Malwarebytes didn't find anything =]

Computer is running a lot better.
although i do have a stubborn program from a kodak camera i no longer have. cant seem to locate the uninstall file…and its not in 'add or remove programs' .. i tried to manually delete the files and that also didnt work because something was still running
Can you tell me the exact location of the files/folder you are trying to delete.

The logs are looking good. Let's get an online scan now.

Run ESET Online Scan

  • Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
    ESET OnlineScan
  • Click the [external image: Posted Image] button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
    • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on the [external image: Posted Image] icon on your desktop.
  • Check [external image: Posted Image]
  • Click the [external image: Posted Image] button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check [external image: Posted Image]
  • Push the Start button.
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, push [external image: Posted Image]
  • Push [external image: Posted Image], and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Push the [external image: Posted Image] button.
  • Push [external image: Posted Image]
You can refer to this animation by neomage if needed.

Take a new DDS run afterward and post back with both the DDS and Attach logs in your next reply. Also, let me know how your computer is running and if you have any more problems, issues or symptoms left.

Thanks.

With Regards,
Extremeboy
For some reason that internet scan wasnt downloading cuz the link wasn't workin.. but my computer is running pretty good! need any other logs or anything? the name of the file i couldnt delete was kodak
Sorry for the delay. Has been a hectic week. Do you want to delete that file? If so, I need the location of it. Run a new DDS scan for me so I can take a look and see if all is good. :) Thanks.
eh. i think im alright. friend showed me how to delete it. but you have been a very big help. i would say this is RESOLVED =]
No problem. Glad we can help. :)

Below are just some prevention tips.

Preventing Infections in the Future

Please also have a look at the following links, giving some advice and Tips to protect yourself against malware and reduce the potential for re-infection:

Some of the main things you should consider to perform/read are:

  • Having ONE Anti-Virus installed and running with real-time protection
  • Disabling Autorun/Play on Flash-Drive/Removable Drives
  • Avoid gaming sites, underground web pages, pirated software sites, and Peer to Peer Programs
  • Keep Windows Updated through going to Windows Updates
  • Updating Non-Microsoft Programs
  • Keeping Security softwares updated
