************************* Everything is fixed, apparently I've been downloading the wrong drivers. My HP Pavilion dv6000 is a part of a series. This may be a bit obvious to some others but I assumed that my computer model was exactly a "dv6000" but it is actually a dv6135nr model. After visiting the manufacturers website and downloaded the right drivers, finally, everything is back to working order.
I would like to express my greatest thanks to those who've helped me fix this. I really appreciate it!" **********************
Please provide the make and model number of your computer and a link to the web site you downloaded drivers from. If it's not a big box system (Dell, Hp, Sony, etc.) what is the make and model number of your system board.
Also:
Network on board or addon PCI card
Video on board or addon PCI
Ditto for sound
Copy these to a folder on your computer to install from. I usually create a Downloads folder under My Documents and always download to it, creating new folders for each unique download. Makes it easy to find things if I need them again.
I think the first thing you need to download and install is the NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver and Network Controller. This should give you a Ethernet connection (wired). Hook up an Ethernet cable between it and your modem or router.
Then get the Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver 6.20 Current. That should give you wireless access.
Make sure Windows is managing your wireless network connection as follows:
1. Open Services (Start then Run, type services.msc and press Enter)
2. Double click on Wireless Zero Configuration
3. Set Startup type to Automatic
4. Click the Start button to start the service
5. Click Apply then OK then close the windows.
6. Open Network Connections in Control Panel.
7. Right click on Wireless Network Connection, select Properties.
8. Click the Wireless Networks tab and check the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" box.
10. Click OK.
Shutdown and reboot to have this take effect. Right click on the Wireles icon in the System area of the Taskbar (far right) and select View available networks (or similar words). Pick your wireless network, enter your encryption key (S/B WPA/WPA2).
Once connected wirelessly, disconnect the Ethernet cable and disable the LAN connection if you want.
I moved the NVIDIA nForce Chipset Driver and Network Controller driver download:
From my other computer
To the phone
From the phone
Copied to a folder in my documents labeled "Downloads" and named after the actual file (NVIDIA etc..)
I removed my phone, and double clicked the file in the folder in my documents. The file started downloading, and it looks like I've already downloaded the file already. So I clicked the option to say "Yes to all" to overwrite the files. For some odd reason, further into that overwriting it said "Access is Denied" then it stopped. I opened the file in the c:swsetup/sp…. and clicked the setup.exe file in there, and then it showed the nvidia logo, continued to an install screen, loaded, then stopped. Here I'm not exactly sure it actually downloaded itself. I can only assume it did.
I then downloaded the broadcom file from the hp website, and did the same thing I did with the other file, put it in its own neat folder in the my documents > downloads area. Seemed to be a quick install after double clicking it from there, I then proceeded to find the file in the c:/swsetup/sp…. file and I double clicked the setup.exe file in there. This showed me a different install screen and looked like it actually downloaded something. This entire process for this file never had the "Access is Denied" error or anything, went smoothly.
In the next section you posted, every single step had already been done. The thing said "Started" it was already set to automatic, and I never had to adjust anything. I got to step 6, clicked on network connections, but there was no "Wireless Network Connections" file or folder.
It just showed that. You have any idea what's going on? And btw, thank you immensely for your help, I honestly can't wait for this issue to be solved and I can go back to enjoying the use of my computer.
The Access Denied errors are not good. Means some par tof the install is not completing which is why you do not have a wireless connectioing showing in Network Connections.
Since you just reformatted and reload XP, I would suggest doing the following:
Save the files you've downloaded. If they are still on your phone that's as good a place as any. If not, place them all in a folder on your hard drive, I'd recommend a separate folder under the main folder for each driver, then burn then to a CDR disc.
Now do the XP install again, including formatting the hard drive (quick format is okay).
Once the install is complete, the first thing to do is install the network driver, see if that works. If so, then reboot as needed then do video, chipset, etc.
Does it need to be burned to a cd? Or can I just do the same thing as I have been doing, grabbing them off my phone and installing them from a folder on my computer? This mac I'm doing all the downloading on is having some issues accepting discs, it'll just spit it out later, so that's why I just put them on the phone and transfer it to my pc that way.
I got all the way down to where you click "Drivers" and "Bootable ISO" to highlight their options. At this point I never had any drivers downloaded to get slipstreamed, so I just foolishly continued the ISO image reburning to my xp installation disk, it finished and I continued else where. I then found on another website that all I had to do was disable the Native SATA from the Bios. So I did that and my XP installation continued.
Before then I would run into an error saying: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows XP Installation"
So with that simple disable the installation continued. This is really the only other variable I may have failed to mention in the OP. Do you think that somehow this might have messed with anything here? If anything I can tell you that some drivers did actually get installed, like the sound one. But there's still 6 or so that have the "?!" error and this includes the Ethernet and Network controllers.
****btw the whole slimstreaming stuff was done prior to this issue I'm having now. I didn't start fumbling with anything afterwards other than trying to get these drivers installed****
After the reinstallation, I grabbed the files from my phone, and installed the nvidia chipset/network controller driver first, checked back at the device manager, still same thing. Nothing changed, still labeled "?!"
I installed the broadcom one too, same thing. Installed, but changes not reflected by the device manager, pre reboot. After reboot, same thing.
back at square one
Do you still have the original, non-slipstreamed XP installation disc? If so, painful as it will be, I would do one more install using the original CD then install the chipset driver. This will cost you a few more hours but will eliminate the install CD as a possible reason for the problems your having.
Before doing that though, please do the following:
Open Device Manager
Expand Network Adapters
Double click on the Ethernet adapter
Click on the Details tab
Post the PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxxx data shown there please (I think you can right click on it and select Copy then paste it here).
I want to see what network device you have other than the Wireless. According to the manual, you should have a standard RJ45 connection and it may even be a Gigabit device.
lol I can't use that computer for anything, So i'm going to have to just print-screen it for you, copying and pasting isn't going to work for obvious reasons ^^; But sure, let me get on that, be right back!
