Well, I'm still having the issue with the redirects in Internet explorer, and the system still refuses to go into standby mode, but other than that, the system is generally running pretty smoothly. Also, when trying to get into safe mode, it still freezes on Mup.sys and then restarts.
🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky Online Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.

2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan.
3. Click Run at the Security prompt.

The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take quite a long time to download.
  • Once the update is complete, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, adware, dialers, and other riskware
    • Archives
    • E-mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View report… at the bottom.
  • Click the Save report… button.

    [external image: Posted Image]

  • Change the Files of type dropdown box to Text file (.txt) and name the file KasReport.txt to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply
Please include the following in your next post:
  • Kaspersky log
  • Let me know how your computer is running

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I am still getting redirected on IE. But I noticed that it may possibly be tied Google Toolbar. The redirects seem to occur far less frequently (if at all) when I type an address directly in the address bar, compared to when I try to search for something or type a web address into google toolbar. Also, Windows still refuses to stand by. Just stuck on"Preparing to stand by…"

Here's the log:

Lets reset the settings. All your temporary internet files, probably including navigating history, will be deleted! Open Internet Explorer Go to Tools and choose for Internet Options Go to the Advanced tab Click on Reset… and allow if any warnings are given Let the computer do its work if it has to Now see whether the problem has stopped.
You might have a new infection that our tools aren't picking up.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system…click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save… button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and re-enable all active protection when done.
No luck! After resetting, a first all seemed well. But after the first redirect came about 5 minutes in, now every link I click redirects. I googled "fishing," and when I clicked the Wikipedia fishing link, I got redirected to "Juggle.com" and its search results for fishing. Couple of questions: Do you think the problems going into standby mode (and safe mode too for that matter) are malware related, or more likely a hardware issue? Also, do you think I should try to update to IE8 in hopes of solvnig the redirect issues, or is that not a good idea?
I know all these scans are getting frustrating but hang with me.

I've tried twice now to run gmer. The first time, the computer cut off in the middle of the scan. I'm not sure exactly what happened as I wasn't monitoring the computer as it scanned, but when I came back to check on it, it was off. The second time, it got pretty far into the scan but I ended up getting a blue screen saying the following: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL There's some more text on this screen, including the following at the bottom: Technical information: *** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x0000001C, 0x0000001, 0x8377500C)
Please download DeFogger to your desktop.

Double click DeFogger to run the tool.
  • The application window will appear
  • Click the Disable button to disable your CD Emulation drivers
  • Click Yes to continue
  • A 'Finished!' message will appear
  • Click OK
  • DeFogger will now ask to reboot the machine - click OK
IMPORTANT! If you receive an error message while running DeFogger, please post the log defogger_disable which will appear on your desktop.

Do not re-enable these drivers until otherwise instructed.

Now try GMER again.
