Hi, I was hoping someone could help me fix up my system.

Here are the issues:

1) When i click on results in search engines such as google, it is often redircted to some other search site or a site promoting a product instead of the correct site. This seems to be remedied by "open link in new tab" when I right click. It's odd…

2) Sometimes popup windows launch for no reason, showing ads for products. This is when I'm on the internet, browsing, but happens on sites where I wouldn't expect it to happen, like CBC, or google.

3) I think my computer is randomly shutting down, since whenever I come to use it, it is showing all the startup programs in the bottom right hand corner. This only happens when the computer restarts. And of course, if any progrmas were left opne, they will be gone…

Here is my hijackthis log. I hope someone can help. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to WTT! :welcome:

–
Before we begin, I would like to see a more detailed look and update of your system.

Please follow the guidelines and outlines mentioned here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/you_Infected_t106388.html

Install and run the tools mentioned there. If you have any problems when running the tools or unable to produce a report for any reason, just let me know in your next reply and skip it and continue. Upon completion, post the following logs in your next reply:

  • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
  • GMER Scan log
  • DDS logs (Both DDS.txt and Attach.txt)

Also, in addition please provide a brief description of any remaining problems or symptoms you may still have please.

Thanks.

With Regards,
Extremeboy
Thanks for the help! I'll will post my logs, but first a note: 1) GMER would not complete it's scan; it froze at c:\windows\system32\drivers\Fasttx2k.sys 2) So I won't have a GMER report for you, unfortunately. I tried sseveral times, but could not get it to get past this file. 3) DDS said to attacht he attach.txt. as a zip file, so I've copied and pasted the contents in this message body, AND also posted the zip file. Don't open the zip file if this is unnecessary. I don't really see why it would be needed anyway… On to the logs. Thanks! Sounds good. :) Log is looking good too.

Let's get another scan and take care of the rest.

We need to create an OTL Report
  • Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:
    • This is THE Mirror
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the [external image: Posted Image] icon on your desktop.
  • Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.
  • Under "Extra Registry" please check "Use Safelist" and also check "LOP Check" and "Purity Check" as pictured.[external image: Posted Image]
  • Copy and Paste the following code into the [external image: Posted Image] textbox. Do not include the word "Code"

    netsvcs
    msconfig
    safebootminimal
    safebootnetwork
    activex
    drivers32
    %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\*.
    %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\*.exe /s
    %APPDATA%\*.
    %APPDATA%\*.exe /s
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll

    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Push [external image: Posted Image]
  • A report will open. Copy and Paste that report in your next reply.
  • Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:
    • OTListIt.txt <– Will be opened
    • Extra.txt <– Will be minimized
Hmmmm…OTL.TXT is still too big, so I've attached it as a zip again.

Here is Extras.txt:

We'll fix the rest, in the mean time please run a Malwarebytes scan.

Update and Scan with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Go to the Update tab
  • Select Check for Update and let MBAM download and install any available updates.
  • After the update is complete go to the Scanner tab.
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

How's your computer running now? Any problems/symptoms left?

You're welcome. Looking good. Let's get one more look at your machine to make sure all is good. If so, we can wrap up. Take a new DDS run afterward and post back with both the DDS and Attach logs in your next reply. Also, let me know how your computer is running and if you have any more problems, issues or symptoms left. Thanks. With Regards, Extremeboy
Hi, Thanks again for all the help. I've played with the computer for a bit, and have only noticed 2 (new) problems, but they may be unrelated…. 1) A few times, my computer has just shut down with no warning. No message, no programs shutting down - everything was just off in a flash. Then when it started up, it said "your comuter has recovered froma serious error". 2) When I was using Open office, my monitor would shut off and turn back on at random. Only when Open Office was being used though….really weird. Other than that, everything seems fine.
