Hi Josephine, welcome to the forum.


To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
    It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
  • Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Close any open windows.
  • Double click the TFC icon to run the program
  • TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
  • Click the Start button to begin the process.
  • Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
  • The program should not take long to finish it's job
  • Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
  • if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean


Download and save to your desktop Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

Nothing too serious.

If you want to remove Norton and try an free alternative I can give you a link and instructions to remove Norton.

Download avast from the link below and save it to your desktop.

Download the Norton Removal Tool from HERE and save it to your desktop.


Disconnect completely from the internet and close all browsers.

Click your start buttton, click Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and uninstall

Norton AntiVirus


Next Double click on Norton_Removal_Tool.exe to run the tool.

Follow the on-screen instructions.
Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts.

Next double click on the Avast set up files you downloaded. Say no if it asks to do a bootime scan.

Reconnect to the internet.

It is working much better but it keeps changing to offline then back onto online when I go to a new 'page' (eg. someone elses' profile page).

Let's see if there is a FireFox addon that is causing the problem.

We'll open a new FireFox browser a different way.

Copy and paste these instruction in to a notepad then close FireFox.

To do that, Highlight all the text below by placing your cursor at the beginning of the text. Hold down your left mouse button and drag it across the text to highlight it.

Right click the highlighted text and click copy.

Next, click your start button and click run. When the run box opens type notepad on the keyboard and hit enter. Notepad should open. Right click in the notepad and click paste.

Close FireFox and continue.

  • Click your start button
  • Highlight All programs
  • Highlight Mozilla FireFox
  • Click Mozilla FireFox (safe mode)
Use that browser to do the things you normally do. Does the problem persist?
