Thank you for any help!
Hello User and welcome to WhatTheTech. I’ll be happy to look over your log and help you with your issues. It will be very helpful if you follow these guidelines:
  • Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.” Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean!
  • Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.
  • Please follow my instructions carefully and in the order they are posted.
  • Any underlined text in my posts indicates a clickable link.
  • You should print any instruction I give you for ease of use and reference.
  • If you have any questions at all, please stop and ask before proceeding.

Please be advised, as I am still in training, all my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advise. This may cause a delay, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible.

I will post back shortly with instructions.
pamela4011,

I see that you have also posted this at at least one other forum. Please advise those helpers that you are receiving help here, or if you are already working with someone else let me know so I can close this thread. Do not follow instructions from more than one forum / helper.

Hijack this is rather outdated. Please run these two tools to give me a better look at what you have going on. Also, can you please elaborate on, "computer still acting up" Exactly what symptoms do you have?

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Please download RootRepeal to your desktop
  • Physically disconnect your machine from the internet as your system will be unprotected.
  • Unzip it to it's own folder, close all other programs especially your security programs (anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewall) and run RootRepeal.exe
  • Click the Report tab at the bottom and then the Scan button.
  • A box will pop up, check the boxes beside Drivers, Hidden Services, Files, Processes SSDT and click OK.
  • Another box will open, check the boxes beside all the drives, eg : C:\, then click OK.
  • The scan will take a little while to run, so let it go unhindered.
  • Once it is done, click the Save Report button, call it RepealScan and save the log to your desktop.
  • Reconnect to the internet.
  • Post the log here in your reply.
🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.
Ok, downloaded repealscan, closed all programs that I could. Get the message low on virtual memory, windows is increasing size, then nothing it will not finish loading?
pamela4011,

Go ahead and skip to the next tool (DDS), then lets give GMER a try:

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Double-click gmer.exe. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<— ROOKIT" entries unless advised!

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked … leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
Post the contents of GMER.txt in your next reply along with your DDS log.
pamela4011, I haven't heard from you in 3 days now. Do you still need help with this? If we do not hear back from you within the next two days we will be closing this thread. Thanks.
Sorry, have had alot going on.

pamela4011,

Here are your first instructions - stop and ask if you have any questions:

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image) Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please include the following in your next post:
  • ComboFix log
(Please cut and paste it instead of adding it as an attachment)
Ok, here is the combofix log as requested.

pamela4011, Just so I'm sure I understand your situation please confirm: The computer we are working on is your mom's, but you have it at your home where you access the internet by tethering your Blackberry. Is that how you use your computer at home as well, or do you have another high speed connection? I see no problem in tethering your BB to your mom's computer to run ESET. We could do the updates that way also, but they will be several hundred Megabytes. If you have bandwidth caps you may want to get them another way; let me know.
yes, I use the blackberry on my computer I will install and use on mom's downloads of large size ok, i have up to 5GB per month of usage.
