None of the tools in the "Infections removal" section will run. I ran exehelper but no effect. Log file below: exeHelper by Raktor Build 20091220 Run at 22:25:45 on 01/01/10 Now searching… Checking for numerical processes… Checking for sysguard processes… Checking for bad processes… Checking for bad files… Checking for bad registry entries… Resetting filetype association for .exe Resetting filetype association for .com Resetting userinit and shell values… Resetting policies… –Finished–
can you describe what symptoms you are experiencing, error messages, behaviour etc. that might help us in a diagnosis. Are you able to boot into safe mode? Safe mode with networking? What happens when you try and run the programs? Are you able to download these programs to your desktop? Can you access task manager (ctrl + Alt + del) can you tell me the running processes?
Symptoms include: - Running slow - Machine frequently hangs - Audio advertisements play at random intervals - Internet Explorer terminates unexpectedly I can boot the machine normally most of the time. It occasionally hangs during boot. I have been able to download the suggested diagnostic tools but they will not run.
Try running this program:

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them in your next reply.
OK, here they are. Also, while this was running I got the following error popup
" FIle or directory c:\$Mft is corrupt and unreadable. Run chkdsk."

Hi,

Please do the following:

Download Combofix from either of the links below. You must rename it to iandl.exe before saving it.
Save it to your desktop. Change the save as file type to "all files"

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, delete it, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**

  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
  • Tools->Options->Main tab
  • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

Link 1
Link 2

———————————————————–

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    ———————————————————–

  • NOTE: If ComboFix asks to install the Recovery Console, please ALLOW it to do so.

    ———————————————————–

  • Double click on the renamed ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt so we can continue cleaning the system.

———————————————————–

Ran Combofix and here's what happened: 1. Combo fix thought McAfee was still running. However, I removed this several days ago and I didn't see any processes in task manager that looked like McAfee. Combofix continued despite the McAfee warning. 2. While running Combofix, numerous unreadable/corrupt file warnings where received. Combofix ran chkdsk after rebooting and appeared to fix several problems. FYI, I have been unable to run chkdsk for quite some time. 3. When finished, notepad opened an empty file called log.txt. However, combofix.txt was not created.
Hi,

Please search for the ComboFix log at C:\combofix.txt

If you cannot locate a log there please do the following:

Click Start>Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

C:\Qoobox\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt

A report should pop open for you. Please post the contents in your next reply.
The search didn't find combofix.txt, but here's the result of the other program. 2010-01-02 14:31:46 . 2010-01-02 14:31:46 349 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\SSODL-Cmpivfat-{2884233A-C73F-48EF-927A-5669F64B01E3}.reg.dat 2010-01-02 14:31:41 . 2010-01-02 14:31:41 125 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\HKLM-Run-Cmaudio.reg.dat 2010-01-02 14:20:15 . 2010-01-02 14:20:15 3,494 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\Service_fioo32.reg.dat 2010-01-02 14:20:15 . 2010-01-02 14:20:15 790 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\Legacy_FIOO32.reg.dat 2010-01-02 14:20:09 . 2010-01-02 14:20:09 5,035 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\tcpip.reg 2010-01-02 14:10:56 . 2010-01-02 14:10:56 876 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\Service_H8SRTd.sys.reg.dat 2010-01-02 14:08:28 . 2010-01-02 14:17:31 102 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\catchme.log 2009-12-23 07:21:52 . 2009-12-27 21:17:39 36,864 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTtniqxupxuw.dll.vir 2009-12-23 07:21:51 . 2010-01-02 13:59:22 202 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\srcr.dat.vir 2009-12-23 07:21:50 . 2009-12-23 07:21:50 203 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTbapkkyuxfy.dat.vir 2009-12-23 07:21:49 . 2009-12-23 07:21:49 23,040 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\H8SRTojewloboaq.dll.vir 2009-12-23 07:21:47 . 2009-12-23 07:21:47 39,936 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\H8SRTsjkwbpjovm.sys.vir 2009-11-16 20:31:36 . 2009-11-16 20:31:36 2 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\0101120101465255.xxe.vir 2009-11-15 21:30:06 . 2009-11-15 21:30:06 1 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\fdgg34353edfgdfdf.vir 2009-11-15 21:29:40 . 2009-11-15 21:29:40 1 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\mmsmark3.dat.vir 2009-11-15 21:29:39 . 2009-11-15 21:29:39 1 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\bk23567.dat.vir 2009-11-15 21:29:39 . 2009-11-15 21:29:39 2 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\0101120101465150.xxe.vir 2009-11-15 21:29:38 . 2009-11-15 21:29:38 2 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\0101120101465155.xxe.vir 2009-11-15 21:29:37 . 2009-11-15 21:29:37 2 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\010112010146116101.xxe.vir 2009-07-31 21:34:54 . 2009-07-31 21:40:03 63,488 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\xobglu16.dll.vir 2002-08-29 12:00:00 . 2009-02-09 12:10:49 729,088 —-a-w- C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\_000012_.tmp.dll.vir
Hi,

Please use the McAfee removal tool to remove all traces of McAfee.

Download and run the McAfee removal tool from http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
This should get rid of McAfee

Hi,

Please do the following:

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below.
  • They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Copy/paste the text inside the Codebox below into notepad:

Here's how to do that:
Click Start > Run type Notepad click OK.
This will open an empty notepad file:

Copy all the text inside of the code box - Press Ctrl+C (or right click on the highlighted section and choose 'copy')

http://forums.whatthetech.com/Nothing_runs_t109235.html&view=findpost&p=621271#entry621271

Collect::
c:\windows\system32\krl32mainweq.dll
c:\windows\AppPatch\SET5.tmp
c:\windows\AppPatch\SET6.tmp
c:\windows\fs1235.dat
c:\windows\bk20856.dat

Now paste the copied text into the open notepad - press CTRL+V (or right click and choose 'paste')

Save this file to your desktop, Save this as "CFScript"

Here's how to do that:

1.Click File;
2.Click Save As… Change the directory to your desktop;
3.Change the Save as type to "All Files";
4.Type in the file name: CFScript
5.Click Save …

[external image: Posted Image]
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

**Note**
When CF finishes running, the ComboFix log will open along with a message box–do not be alarmed. With the above script, ComboFix will capture files to submit for analysis.
  • Ensure you are connected to the internet and click OK on the message box.

  • Please open your MalwareBytes AntiMalware Program
  • Click the Update Tab and search for updates
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <– very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Run an on-line scan with Kaspersky

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky On-line Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
3. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply

In your next reply please include
  • ComboFix Log
  • MBAM Log
  • Kaspersky report
Here are the reports:

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

  • It is good security practice to change your passwords to all your online accounts on a fairly regular basis, this is especially true after an infection. Refer to this Microsoft article
Strong passwords: How to create and use them

Then consider a password keeper, to keep all your passwords safe.
  • Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    • Click on the Security tab
    • Click Reset all zones to default level
