I have a probem similar to Vashmere who just requested help. When I click on a hyperlink directly, browser opens a random advertisement page. If I click open in new tab/window, I sometimes get the deisred page but usually get the desired page plus another random page in another tab. When I conduct google-type searches I get different/random search engine-type pages but they are full of ads, etc. Additionally, browser in particular and computer in general (even though its old/slow [900mHz] anyway) basically grinds to a halt the longer it is on…browser and windows explorer pages get slower and slower and then eventually fail to load until I reboot. Any help would be appreciated. Please note I have to head to work and will not be able to respond to any advice until later this afternoon. Thank you, LB
Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

If you already have HijackThis, please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.Use Add/Remove Programs and remove HijackThis. What you have now is out dated.

you can get a complete installer that installs HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut from http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HJTsetup.exe.

Click on the link and select Save, save it to your desktop and double click HJTsetup.exe.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here please use the [Add Reply] button below.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button below to post the new HJT log and report.txt
You will have to forgive me for being so slow; EVERY mouseclick, link, window I open takes a couple of minutes to load.

Here is the 2.0.2 hijack this file:

Nothing bad there. IE8 is causing all types of issues. Lets see if that's causing your issues. I suggest you do this: Uninstall Internet Explorer 8 to return to Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel." Click "Add or Remove Programs." Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 8 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove."
FWIW I was running Google Chrome (just because I wanted to try it) and it was doing the same thing…it finally got to where it wouldn't open any pages at all…hung on connecting/loading. Removing IE8 ATT. LB
This IS painful…am removing the IE8 updates but my add/remove programs routine quit working…could click on it but it just wouldn't open. When I tried to restart the machine it all seemed to work through the start menu, selected restart but the machine never restarted…had to hard shut down. Question is: the IE8 updates are removed but IE8 itself does not have a remove feature. Can I install IE7 over it? LB
OK, "talking" to you via Firefox…at least IT runs faster. I guess the idea now is to see if overall performance has returned to normal…
