Hi,
On December 1, 2009, I had Savant 3.1 running while connected to the internet. Very generic configuration as installed with defaults. Yesterday I had an unexpected visit/probe from www.wantsfly.com. Savant showed one file as transferred. But I couldn't determine which file. Now AVG 9.0 displays a "Resident Shield alert" when starting Firefox on file name: c:\Users\albert\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\m8js219.default\cookies.sqlite
giving a threat name of "Found Tracking cookie.Doubleclick". Detected on open.
Scanned file with AVG anitvirus and with Clamwin anitvirus. Both reported no viruses. Deleted file. Restarted Firefox and new cookies.sqlite is created and get same alert with no viruses detected. As shown below is the latest HijackThis output file.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Al Howard

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Vista and Windows 7 users:
1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe) every time you run them
2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
[external image: Posted Image]
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • [external image: Posted Image]
  • Then click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste". .
Hi LTDate,
Thanks for prompt advice. Followed instructions. Programs downloaded and executed. Log files are below. The computer is operating fine. The reported symptom did not appear on restart of Firefox. Awaiting further advice/instructions.

Hi LTDate, I made a mistake. The AVG Webshield did report the doubleclick on restarting Firefox. This is the same as before. "Found Tracking cookie.Doubleclick";"C:\Users\albert\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\rn8js219.default\cookies.sqlite";"";"12/5/2009, 10:45:04 AM";"file";"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" Thanks again, Al Howard
You might want to save FF passwords if you use them

empty the cache in firefox
1. click on tools > options
2. click on the Privacy button on the left side of the window
3. click the "Clear All" button to clear all cached items or select individual items to clear by clicking on individual "Clear" buttons (History, Saved Information, Saved Passwords, Download Manager History, Cookies, Cache)
Dear DTLate,
Followed the instruction on cache. Previously, I had run AVG scan which has been installed throughout. It reported some errors and offered to fix it. I let it fix the errors it found… Sorry I forgot about the don't delete anything without your ok. But the good news is that the warning didn't come back. I have placed a new HIjackThis log file after doing all the above.
Thanks, Al Howard

If you're going to use AVG then unistall ClamWin. Never install more than one Antivirus and Firewall! Rather than giving you extra protection, it will decrease the reliability of it seriously! The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, your system may lock up due to both software products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Also because more than one Antivirus and Firewall installed are not compatible with each other, it can cause system performance problems and a serious system slowdown.
Dear DTLate, Once again I spoke too soon. After clearing history, I closed Firefox without saving. Upon restart the warning was back. Al Howard

Dear LDTate, I have removed ClamWin. I have disabled third party cookies on both Firefox 3.5.5 and IE 8. When I started Firefox this time on the Firefox homepage I got no warning. Sorry about transposing the D and the T…
Dear LDTate, The computer is running fine. I do get a doubleclick warning from AVG Webshield but, as you say, there are going to be some cookies from web sites. I do appreciate your patience and advice on this. I did adjust the cookies settings on Firefox 3.5.5. and IE. Thanks, Al Howard
