Hello,

For the past couple of days I have had a Trojen virus warning popping up on my screen from my AVG security. I click on heal but nothing seems to happen. I have noticed some slower performance from my computer, but nothing too bad. I also don't have a bunch of pop-ups. I just get this warning, so something has got to be there. My Malwarebytes has also found nothing. I've included a couple of logs below. Thanks!

Welcome back

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, MBAM, SmitfraudFix, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.

Download the tools needed to a flash drive or other removable media, and transfer them to the infected computer if needed.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

——————————————————————–

With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have the Windows Recovery Console pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Go to Microsoft's website => http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994

Scroll down to Step 1, and select the download that's appropriate for your Operating System. Download the file & save it as it's originally named.

Note: If you have SP3, use the SP2 package.

———————————————————————

Transfer all files you just downloaded, to the desktop of the infected computer.

——————————————————————–

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it.

  • Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.

    [external image: Posted Image]

  • At the next prompt, click 'Yes' to run the full ComboFix scan.

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply using Copy/Paste.

Notes:

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Also please describe how your computer behaves in your next reply.
Thanks for your quick response! I'm stuck on the following step: •Drag the setup package onto ComboFix.exe and drop it Nothing happens for me after this step. It seems like combofix is loading and then it just disappears. Any suggestions?

Double Click the Combofix file on your desktop and let it run.

I did that and i'm getting nothing. Does it just run quietly without me knowing? How long sure I be waiting?

It just looks like it's loading and then nothing happens.

I never get to this point:
Follow the prompts to start ComboFix and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Recovery Console.

I did that and i'm getting nothing. Does it just run quietly without me knowing? How long sure I be waiting?

It should come up and notify you that it's going to run and you have to agree to it running.

Try renaming combofix.exe to combofix1.com
Now see if it runs.
No, still nothing. I don't know, maybe one of my other programs is keeping it from working? Ok, well I have to get to work. I will be back on around 9:00 AM Pacific time tomorrow. Thanks for your help ldtate!
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Ok, I got ComboFix to work and it started it's scan. 3 1/2 hors later it's still not done. It was stuck on the same blue screen saying it should take 10 min or double that for really bad infections. Does 3 1/2 hours seem right? I had to stop the scan to reply. Do you know of any other suggestions?

No. It shouldn't take more then 30 mins tops. Did you disable AVG8?

You could try renaming combofix.exe to combofix1.com and try it again.

If it still locks up, try it while in Safe Mode.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.
This can take several miniutes to load.
Ok, we can start now.

I needed to do it in safe mode. Here are the logs:
