[Resolved] Badly Infected computer - can only access via Taskmanager

Hi,

Try the following:

if your network icon appears on the Windows taskbar, then you can repair it by right-clicking on the icon and selecting Repair.

If you have no task bar icon do this:

  • Click on the Start button.
  • Click on the Settings menu option.
  • Click on the Control Panel option.
  • When the Control Panel opens, double-click on the Network Connections icon. If your Control Panel is set to Category View, then double-click on Network and Internet Connections and then click on Network Connections at the bottom.
  • You will now see a list of available network connections. Locate the connection for your Wireless or Lan adapter and right-click on it.
  • click on the Repair menu option.

Let the repair process perform its tasks and when it has finished, your Internet connection should be working again.


If that doesn't work, try this:

Please copy the entire contents of the codebox below into Notepad:
  • Open Notepad
  • Copy the contents of the codebox below using CTRL C

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinSock2]

  • Now return to Notepad and use CTRL V to paste the script
  • Verify that you have pasted the complete script
  • Save the Notepad file to your Desktop as FixReg.reg using Save as Type: All files
  • Locate FixReg.reg on your desktop
  • Double click to run, and when prompted Allow the file to merge with your registry
  • OK your way out.
After that, Reboot your computer.


After the reboot, we will reinstall TCP/IP
  • Go to Start the Settings and choose Network Connections
  • Right click on your normal connection icon, and choose Properties
  • Click the Install button
  • Choose Protocol then click Add
  • Click Have disk
  • In the drop down box, type in: C:\WINDOWS\INF and click OK
  • In the next dialog, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then click OK
  • Click Close to leave the properties box
After that, Reboot your computer and see if you have regained your connection.

i do have a network connection and am connected to the www as email works however when i click on internet explorer icon it does not launch ?

do you get any kind of message?

try running this program:

Please download exe_fix and save it to your desktop

Double click on exe_fix.com to run it

Type the number 1 at the prompt and allow the tool to run

If that doesn't work try this:

Download Inherit and save it to your desk top
Drag each of the exe files that you are unable to run into Inherit.exe (must be the exe - not the shortcut)
Then wait for it to say "OK"

Then the program should launch

that has not helped when i double click on ie ico to launch it says "windows cannot access the specified device,path or file, you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" thanks

kaspersky ran till the end but was that unstable that it locked up after the scan finished and i could not produce a log report it found no items

How is the computer running now? Are there any outstanding issues?

That is not unusual for Kaspersky, doesn't necessarily point to a problem with your machine.

Please run the following:

Please download DDS from LINK 1 or LINK 2
and save it to your desktop.

  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.pif to run the tool.
  • When done, two DDS.txt's will open.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

For the first time in days i actually have desktop icons again and a taskbar with system tray at the bottom avg is showing a problem with the email scanner, i don't seen to be able to switch it back on, also windows defender will not open and gives an error, internet and mail seem ok, i will try DDS later and post results Thanks ed

No doubt, ripping out the malware corrupted those installations.

You should uninstall both those programs and reinstall them

Go to Start > Contol Panel > Add/Remove programs

a list of installed programs will populate.

Remove the AVG and windows defender.

You may need to use the removal tool for AVG and the Windows Cleanup Utility to completely remove those programs as the installation files may be corrupt


For AVG

download the AVG removal tool and follow the directions

For Windows Defender, download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and see if there are any leftovers that need removing:

Then reinstall those programs

Give one of these a try

1) Antivir PersonalEdition Classic - Free anti-virus software for Windows. Free support.
2) avast! 4 Home Edition - Anti-virus program for Windows. The home edition is freeware for noncommercial users.
You should run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and results in program conflicts. false virus alerts, system slow downs and crashes.

computer seems much better, I have uninstalled both avg and windows defender using the methods you suggested and have ran the dds tool, see reports below, will also install Avast i think, add remove programs were not working but i dragged the .exe file which windows said was bad/missing to Inherit and then it did run.Will i need to keep using inherit as and when programs don't launch ?
