Sorry I missed the notification that TOMK had replied to my request. I ran the TFC and the malware bytes …it only showed 2 infected files…disabled security in windows. Here is the new HJT log that you requested. Computer is still running slow. I also changed the virtual memory to "system managed" in the advanced settings to try to solve the low virtual memory warning.

Ok, did those things here is the report ——————————————————————————– KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER 7.0 REPORT Friday, July 31, 2009 Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600) Kaspersky Online Scanner version: 7.0.26.13 Program database last update: Friday, July 31, 2009 03:24:45 Records in database: 2565300 ——————————————————————————– Scan settings: Scan using the following database: extended Scan archives: yes Scan mail databases: yes Scan area - My Computer: C:\ D:\ E:\ Scan statistics: Files scanned: 91658 Threat name: 1 Infected objects: 0 Suspicious objects: 1 Duration of the scan: 03:12:03 File name / Threat name / Threats count C:\Documents and Settings\Tracy\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst Suspicious: Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen 1 The selected area was scanned. I also have gotten the virtual memory warning again….after changing my settings to "system managed" is it possible that its actually low? Computer is maybe 3 yrs old and its not even close to being used to capacity.
loubratt,

It's possible. However, I don't know much about that so when we're done here, you might want to question the Tech Team.

Meanwhile, You have an infected email. Unfortunately I cannot tell which one or ones it is. What I need you to do is go through all of your email in your in box, sent box, and any other saved boxes you may have. Please delete any that you don't want/need/recognize. Odds are that the infected email will have an attachment or at least a link. Therefore, do not open any attachments or click on any links. Once you've been through all of the emails, please empty your deleted email box.

Then let's get another scan just incase somethng is hiding from us.

Please download gmer.zip from Gmer and save it to your desktop.

  • Right click on gmer.zip and select Extract All….
  • Click Next on seeing the Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard.
  • Click on the Browse button. Click on Desktop. Then click OK.
  • Click Next. It will start extracting.
  • Once done, check (tick) the Show extracted files box and click Finish.
  • Double click on gmer.exe to run it.
  • Select the Rootkit tab.
  • On the right hand side, check all the items to be scanned, but leave Show All box unchecked.
  • Select all drives that are connected to your system to be scanned.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • When the scan is finished, click Copy to save the scan log to the Windows clipboard.
  • Open Notepad or a similar text editor.
  • Paste the clipboard contents into the text editor.
  • Save the Gmer scan log and post it in your next reply.

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.
Ok I think I have all emails cleaned out.
Here is the log from gmer scan

Here is the log, it is still running extremely slow…loading programs is really slow, loading internet is also really slow. Clicking around in email for example goes fine at a normal speed, working in Roxio with picture files etc is almost impossible and clicking around net or quickbooks is a patience wrecker.

The one thing that has improved is the clicking within programs a bit.

loubratt,

Let's give this a try then:

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Disable_…ams_t96260.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Btw thanks for your patience as this does not seem to be an obvious quick fix… Here is the combo fix log

loubratt,

For sure nothing obvious. All I'm finding are housekeeping issues that are probably not the cause of your problems.

JavaRa …by: Paul McLain and Fred de Vries

Please download JavaRa (Copyright © 2008 RaProducts.org) and unzip it to your desktop.
***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!***
Print these instructions…you won't have Internet access during this particular phase!
  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English or the appropriate language…and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the JavaRa log, in your next reply.

  • Please click Start
  • then click Run
  • then type CMD
  • hit Enter
  • type SC DELETE SessionLauncher
  • hit Enter
  • type Exit
  • hit Enter

Then let's see a new HijackThis log.
Here is the JavaRa log followed by the hjt log

loubratt,

I'm finding nothing. I suggest that you seek help in the Windows Forum from the Tech Team. When you post there, please post a link back to this thread so they can see your logs.

Meanwhile, Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point:

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Remove all previous Restore Points
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

cleanmgr

You may be asked to choose drive. Choose C: At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up… button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Also: "How to prevent malware"
by miekiemoes

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
Thank you very much. I will head over to the Windows Forum and see what I can find. Meanwhile I am adding more RAM so that can be eliminated as the problem. Thanks again for all your help!
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance. If you're the topic starter, and need this topic reopened, please contact a staff member with the address of the thread. Everyone else please begin a New Topic.
