God i have the worst memeory, cant remeber things for 10 minutes, anyway, I followed the romove sbsd and macfee av disable instructions as best i could, i think the instructions are a bit outdated, sbsd didnt have the tetimer in the system startup list, but i made sure the teatimmer wasnt in taskmanager befor i ran combofix, also macfee instructions are wrong there is no exit option when right clicked anymore, you have to disable all of it through the menus now… this search is taking insanely long, its in /windows now and still no combofix.txt
I think there is somthing wrong with the expoler search function, i redifined the search to just "combo" and it start listing everything multiable times example the combo-fix.exe was list 6 times with the same path and still going when i shut it down..this may have to do with an other error that keeps popping up on reboots "Proquota" keeps saying somthing about profile space exceeded before crashing..i suspect it has somthing do with java from web searches so i havnt been to worried about it.
alright small problem, i think i missed turning off script scanning in macffe befor running combofix, should i rerun it?
Note: We recommend that you save these instructions to your desktop, or print them out, as we will be going into Safe Mode during part of this fix. Select all of the text, copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) to a Notepad (Start->Programs->Accessories) document, then save (Ctrl+S) to your desktop

  • Next, select never for "When to re-enable real time scanning"
  • and click OK.

Disable the TeaTimer, leave it disabled, do not turn it back on until we're done or it will prevent fixes from taking

  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
  • If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, Click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer.<–You need to do this for it to take effect
Please do not proceed until the TeaTimer is disabled

Make sure both of these are disabled before you do anything else.

============================================

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer.
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear.
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.

============================================

Once in Safe Mode, run Combo-Fix.exe.
If ComboFix reboots the machine, make absolutely sure you boot back into Safe Mode by using the above instructions, until a log is produced. This means you will have to babysit the machine whilst it scans.
Alright, heres the log :)

Make sure McAfee and TeaTimer are still disabled before proceeding.

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    DDS::
    uInternet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:7171
    uInternet Settings,ProxyOverride = *.local;

    DirLook::

  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • If you need help to disable your protection programs see here.
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

====================

Go to My Computer-> Tools-> Folder Options-> View tab:
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading:
  • Select - Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck- Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Also, make sure there is no checkmark beside Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK. (Remember to Hide files and folders once done)

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    http://forums.whatthetech.com/2_Google_redirect_kills_spybot_Malwarebytes_HJT_t105568.html

    Collect::
    C:\cmngfi.exe

    Folder::
    c:\program files\daeykg

====================

Please do a scan with the Kaspersky Online Scanner

  • Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition
    files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a long time, so be patient and let it run. (At times it may appear to stall)
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report

To obtain the report:
  • Click on Save Report As
  • In the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop
  • In the File name area, use KScan, or something similar
  • In Save as type, click the drop arrow and select Text file [*.txt]
  • Click Save

(Note for Internet Explorer users: If at any time you have trouble with the "Accept" button of the license, click on the "Zoom" tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license has been accepted, reset to 100%.)

In your next reply post:

i just remebered somthing that i was going to bring to your attention but forgot, go figure….Combofix poped up a message about a new version available, and asked if i wanted to download it, since it wasnt in the instuctions, i selected "No" and proceded with the scan and made a mental note to tell you about it….maybe i should invest in a pen and note book, huh?
Congratulations, everything looks all clean. :)

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
  • [external image: Posted Image]
The above procedure will reset your System Restore and clear out the backups and quarantines created during the course of this fix.

============================================

Combofix is a powerful tool and should not be used without supervision. Especially using switch commands that delete logs and quarantines that could have helped with diagnosis.
DDS is a diagnostic tool, you can delete this.
GMER is a diagnostic tool, you can delete this.

Your current version of Adobe Reader is out of date, and may contain security issues. Please uninstall the version you have now from Add/Remove programs, and then download and install the latest Adobe Reader.

============================================

You may now re-enable McAfee and TeaTimer.

P2P - I see you have P2P software (uTorrent) installed on your machine. We are not here to pass judgment on file-sharing as a concept. However, we will warn you that engaging in this activity and having this kind of software installed on your machine will always make you more susceptible to re-infections. It likely contributed to your current situation. This page will give you further information.
Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.
Please see this topic for more information:
Perils of P2P File Sharing.
I would strongly recommend that you uninstall these now. You can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

1. Make your Internet Explorer More Secure
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab.
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.

    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt.
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable.
    • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable.
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt.
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt.
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt.
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
2. Update your Anti-Virus Software - I can not overemphasize the need for you to update your Anti-virus application on a regular basis. With the ever increasing number of new variants of malware arriving on the scene daily, you become very susceptible to an attack without updated protection.

3. Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. Without these you are leaving the back door open.

4. Consider a custom hosts file such as MVPS HOSTS. This custom hosts file effectively blocks a wide range of unwanted ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers.
For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial by WinHelp2002
Note: Be sure to follow the instructions to disable the DNS Client service before installing a custom hosts file.

5. Download and install the free version of WinPatrol. This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software. Have a look at this tutorial to help you get started with the program.

6. Protect your computer from internet threats with SandboxIE. This program isolates Internet Explorer from the rest of your operating system, 'sandboxing' it away - so malicious websites can't do damage to the rest of your system. There is a Getting Started guide on their website.

7. Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here.

8. Finally, I strongly recommend that you read Miekiemoses' good advice - How to prevent Malware

Please reply to this thread once more if you are satisfied so that we can mark the problem as resolved.
Thank you very much raktor, the time and effort you put into helping me out here is greatly appreciated. my system is booting and running programs atleast twice as fast normally. you and everyone at WhattheTech have just made a new freind, hope one day i can return the favor. :)
