Hi all,

In a nutshell I was having trouble getting PC to boot and when I finally got it working Avast found the following. Will just deleting them with Avast be enough? From what I've read online the sdra64.exe needs a special fix, but I don't feel comfortable enough to attempt it on my own. I'll give more details below in case they're needed.

Thanks so much,
Connie

More details:

Not too experienced with computers so please be patient with me and forgive me if I babble too much =)

Working on hubby's desktop Dell Dimension 2400. It wouldn't boot up, kept looping between the the Dell page and Window's page. Stumbled upon a diagnostics test through F12 which indicated memory failure. A friend told me that meant the RAM was bad, but a new stick didn't help. I then used the WinXP reinstallation cd to repair and was able to boot without loosing everything. It's now booting up, though a bit slow and after the desktop comes up documents opens by itself. I had AVG8 Free on it, but it wouldn't work when I tried to do a scan so I uninstalled it and tried Avast instead. The only other problem I've found so far is that the printer isn't being recognized. I think that's it.

Thanks again!
Hello.

I'm Extremeboy or EB for short and I will help you with your log.

Regarding Backdoor/rootkits:
Unfortunatly One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. First, run DDS so I can gain some more information of your system.

Download and run DDS

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results soon.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results and then click Ok.
  • The black and message box window shall then disappear.
  • Please save both log files on your desktop and post the DDS.txt and zip up and attach Attach.txt as instructed.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet. Information on A/V control HERE
