We look for post with 0 replies, so when you posted to your own log, we assumed you were being helped.

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
PC speed seems to be okay and Excel, Task Manager, etc open and work at normal speed
Currently cannot connect to Internet no matter what I try. I've checked all network settings, and my Linksys Wireless status reads "Can connect to the access point, but the Internet cannot be found". I did notice that my IE home page is re-directed to "http://go.microsoft.com/Fwlink/?LinkID=74005" every time I try and access internet. The if I type say www.yahoo.com in address bar and refresh it will re-direct (or change address in address bar) to a totally different address but page will still read "INTERNET EXPLORER CANNOT DISPLAY THE WEBPAGE".
Here is current HJT log:

WOW-I didn't catch that. I didn't see that my friend had Norton (no icons on desktop) loaded. I installed AVG from my thumbdrive and scanned. Sorry for delays-swapping back & forth using work pc (for internet access) and friends downed pc. What do you advise I should do at this point?
Is your friends pc on a network?
Here's the reason I ask:
O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\nwprovau.dll

What is NWPROVAU.DLL?

Combofix will fit on a thumb drive.

Download Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

Note: Combofix will run without the Recovery Console installed.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
"copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste".

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
No it is not on any network. I have no idea what NWPROVAU.DLL is either? If it helps, I just did windows search and files containing "NWPROVAU" were found in c:\windows\system32 and in c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386. I am stepping out for lunch and will continue with combofix download approx 2pm. Thank you so much for your time.
Okay, here's what happened. I downloaded and saved Combofix to thumbdrive. I then was able to disable the AVG Resident Shield per instruction. I could not locate or stop Norton Internet Security. So I just figured let me try and run Combofix (I knew I shouldn't since Norton still running). It ran and said that BOTH AVG & Norton were still running? I continued w/Combofix anyway and it ran for approx 35 min showed 50 stages complete on dos page and then auto-deleted 7 files along with 2 folders. A box then popped up along with Notepad stating "Cannot find C:\document~1\chuck\locals~1\temp\log.txt.file DO YOU WANT TO CREATE? So I clicked on Yes and it's just sitting at blank Notepad now. I'm Sorry, I should have stopped and asked for add'l help at disabling or uninstalling both AV's before proceeding. I will be back at 7:30am and hope that you will continue support and I will follow all instructions to a T.
I just downloaded and ran winsockxpfix and get same result, Linksys Wireless status reads "Can connect to the access point, but the Internet cannot be found". and IE still reads "INTERNET EXPLORER CANNOT DISPLAY THE WEBPAGE". Not sure if this matters but I went to make sure that the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings box was checked and I COULD NOT LOCATE IT. If I go to Network Connections, Wireless Network, Properties the Wireless Networks tab is missing between the General and Advanced tabs?
Are you at the desktop of this pc?

If so, do a file search for ComboFix.txt. If located, open with Notepad and copy paste it here.
