Hello. Recently (Last night) my computer got infected by a file I was downloading (which I thought was a painting program) but it turned out to be some kind of malicious software that redirected my computer searches to one of two places: It would either redirect to some advertising site or It would bring up a screen that said something along the lines of "Welcome to the MIVA DLL. Please enjoy your stay. Initialization errors:0" It's already disable my SUPER AntiSpyware Free Edition And it's enabled McAfee which I'm pretty sure I had it on disable. I've found that I can bypass the redirecting by posting links directly into the URL bar but recently this hasn't bothered me. However, It now feels like my connection has been compromised and I need help. I just recently downloaded HijackThis to install just in case.
Hello gemnom

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum,

All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at your own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<info.txt (<
Hello ken545. First of all, Thank you so much for replying to problem. But I have some bad news. While I was at work, my dad got on the computer and I think he might have accidentally downloaded some anti-virus program that the internet redirected him to. It was called STOPzilla. I kind of groaned a little when I saw its icon in the lower right icons. I followed your advice and downloaded the RSIT that you gave me but unfortunately STOPzilla blocked and deleted it. I couldn't disable it because I didn't see a disable button when I right-clicked it. So, I decided to remove it with the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. When I tried to remove it, it had a pop-up that had the two options of whether I wanted to continue my trial (Yes,Install/No,Uninstall). When I saw this I pressed ctl+alt+del and tried to end the pop-up's process and when I did, the "nonresponsive program" window came up and called the App's name 'Run a DLL as an App'. The pop-up window was still there, so I clicked the No, Uninstall. STOPzilla was no longer there so then I tried downloading and opening RSIT again. I saw the RSIT agreement saying that I had to have the HijackThis program already installed. But I didn't have it installed yet so I went ahead and tried to open the install program. But to my surprise, it didn't open. The cursor had its timer sand going but then went back to normal and nothing happened. Is there any way that I could possibly manually install it? Or is there something I should do or download?
Hi,

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2162968,00.asp
Stopzilla is not the best kid on the block and can be uninstalled via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel. One of the things we require when working on fixing a system is that no other software programs are to be installed until your all clean, this just messes up the fix and makes things on my end confusing. So let anyone know who is using your computer to just leave it be.

1. Uninstall Stopzilla
2. Follow my previous link and redownload and run RSIT
Hello, STOPzila is uninstalled and I've just done what you said and ran RSIT. And I also, told my dad strictly not to download anything that the computer redirects to.
Here's the RSIT log and info as follows:

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

Post the report and also a new HJT log please
Hello ken545, I turned on my computer again but for some reason it froze up a little (the bar that the 'start' button is located on didn't show up), so I had to hold down the power button a few seconds to turn it off. Then I tried turning it on again and it ran well but then it had to be turn off again because the blue screen that's had me shut the computer down appeared again (like in the previous two or three times). (I'm pretty sure it isn't the blue screen of death, though) I went ahead to downloaded the TFC and did what you said and let it work and reboot. Then I downloaded the mbam-setup.exe and tried to open it but nothing happened. That's about all that's happened and but I have to go to work soon.
Right click on the Malwarebytes set up icon and rename it to Malware-bytes.exe

Then run it in Safemode with Networking

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode with Networking
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode
I was able to install Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware on my computer in safe mode, but the problem is I can't run the program in Safe Mode OR Normal Mode. Is there anything that can solve this and run it?
Hi,

You have some nasty things going on. Some of this garbage will prevent security apps from running. We will have to dig deeper to see whats going on

Rooter Rootkit Detector - Please Download from here to your Desktop:
  • Doubleclick it to start the tool.
  • A Notepad file containing the report will open, also found at %systemdrive% (usually C:)\Rooter.txt.

Post the log please
Hi,

so far since I turned it on, it's shut itself down four times.
I also checked the Task manager what about processes were going on and a process called MCshield was using over 100kb.
But I was able to come here and download the Rooter tool.

Here's the Report:

Hi,

AdwareAlert <–This is a rogue anti spyware program, you can try uninstalling it via add remove programs.

If Combofix wont run, rename it to Combo-fix.exe

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.
Hi there,

I wasn't able to find AdwareAlert in Add/Remove Program window, but I was able to do all that you said in the last post.
The program asked me to take note of a few items listed in a pop-up before I Okayed the reboot. I can post those in the next post if necessary.

But here's the results for the two scans:

Ok, great

Open Notepad Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories> Notepad ( this will only work with Notepad )and copy all the text inside the Codebox by highlighting it all and pressing CTRL C on your keyboard, then paste it into Notepad, make sure there is no space before and above File::

File::
C:\windows\system32\drivers\svchost.exe

Registry::
[HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"%windir%\\system32\\drivers\\svchost.exe"=-

Save this as CFScript to your desktop.

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

[external image: Posted Image]

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

You should be able to run Malwarebytes now, open the program, check for updates and run the quick scan, besure to check all it finds and remove them. Post that log also please
Hello,

I did what you said and ran the three scans.
I should note that the McAfee on my computer kept re-enabling itself when I was able to ComboFix it. So I had to disable each of it's tasks individually and then run it.

Anyways, here's the results of the scans:
