Hi,

If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it a lot. I am not tech savvy, but I know more than most and less than the proud few. My brother came to visit me from his Army Base in Alabama and stayed for a couple of days in my apartment. While I was working during the day, I made the mistake of giving a horny single white male the use of my computer. Now that he's gone I have problems that I cannot fix.

I keep getting a pop-up, no matter where I go or what I click on. After clicking ok, it reappears five more times. When I start the computer, it appears. If I go to a server it appears and if I click on a new or existing site (even switiching between tabs, it appears always.

This is the following message:

Header: ForceField.exe - Bad Image
Box Message: C:\Windows\system32\napinsp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

My computer runs using Windows Vista Home Premium 2007. The programs I have installed to keep it running smoothly are: ZoneAlarm (paid for), Advanced System Care (free), Iobit Security 360 (free), and I recently installed Super AntiSpyware Free Edition. I also have HiJack This. Here is my log:

Run an on-line scan with Kaspersky

Using Internet Explorer or Firefox, visit Kaspersky On-line Scanner

1. Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
2. To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
3. Click Run at the Security prompt.
The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.

Hi and thanks for your time. I started working on the list you gave me since 9am (It is now 4pm). I met some problems along the way though. I attempted to run the TLC three times. The first two times, the program did not respond, and instead froze my computer. I had to restart it twice. Keep in mind, that incessant pop-up kept popping-up throughout everything. If I didn't click "ok" on it, my computer would not continue doing what it was doing. You can imagine the frustration. After finally getting the TLC to run I began the anti-malware download. You directed me to run the quick scan. I did, and no infections were found. I then ran the full scan. Also, no infections were found. I have both of them logged for you to read. Finally, I downloaded the Kaspersky online scanner. It was taking forever to download, and I had to run errands, that I left it downloading, and when I returned, my computer was shut off. I had to start over. After I was able to download the program and scan my computer, it found no viruses. And I have included that report for you to review. The pop-ups are still at it as I type to you now. During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

[external image: Posted Image]

[external image: Posted Image]
——————————————————————–
  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

———————————————————–

  • Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    • Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

    ———————————————————–

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

I don't know if what happened during the scan is relevant to the results on the log, but after I did the scan, I tried to get a window back up so I could forward the log. The computer denied me access and instead said Mozilla was marked for deletion. Not only that, it said everything was marked for deletion. I couldn't get online at all. So I saved the log and restarted the computer. I was able to get online again. Hi,

From what I can find out, the messages appear to be from your Zone Alarm program. There may be a conflict with one your other programs or the installation has become corrupted.

You may want to consider uninstalling then reinstalling this software.

Please do the following:

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below.
  • They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Copy/paste the text inside the Codebox below into notepad:

Here's how to do that:
Click Start > Run type Notepad click OK.
This will open an empty notepad file:

Copy all the text inside of the code box - Press Ctrl+C (or right click on the highlighted section and choose 'copy')

File::

file::
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_07_08_10_18_32_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB4C9C.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDBA90C.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB5E37.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_24_02_18_01_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_21_03_11_33_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_18_21_40_12_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDBA610.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_15_08_23_57_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_14_18_10_19_full.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_14_14_21_55_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB895C.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB8B02.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_14_13_56_56_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB4490.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_13_00_17_18_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\vsmon_2nd_2009_06_11_19_36_03_small.dmp.zip
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB7081.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB6FC4.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB6308.tmp
c:\windows\Internet Logs\xDB67B9.tmp

Now paste the copied text into the open notepad - press CTRL+V (or right click and choose 'paste')

Save this file to your desktop, Save this as "CFScript"

Here's how to do that:

1.Click File;
2.Click Save As… Change the directory to your desktop;
3.Change the Save as type to "All Files";
4.Type in the file name: CFScript
5.Click Save …

[external image: Posted Image]
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Please advise how your computer is running now and what issues still remain.
I did exactly as you directed. The pop-ups were still appearing up until the scan officially started. After the scan finished, the pop-ups still haven't appeared and I haven't been bugged by one yet. I didn't have to reboot my computer and I put my anti-virus and anti-spyware back on. So far… no pop-ups. Do you think I may be in the clear? Here is my log:

On a sad note: I tried to open some programs that would cause the pop-ups to become more aggressive. One such program was my Google Chrome. As soon as I tried to open the application, the pop-ups came back in twenties instead of fives. I rebooted my computer, and as soon as my desktop loaded… the pop-ups appeared (fives only). One other program that was being affected was my graboid video. Sure enough, after clicking on it, the pop-ups reappeared. They are not gone yet. They are not as aggressive but they are not gone. :-(
can you please describe what these popups are:

what are the messages.

the initial ones from your first post indicated an issue with zone alarm. Are these different.

Please do the following:

Please download HostsXpert
  • Unzip HostsXpert to it's own folder in a convenient place such as C:\HostsXpert
  • Run: HostsXpert.exe
  • Click: Make Writable? in the upper left corner.
  • Click: Restore MS Hosts File
  • Click: Replace
  • Click: OK
  • Click: Make ReadOnly
  • Close HostsXpert.

NEXT

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2
  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).
  • When prompted to run the scan, click Yes.
  • GooredFix will check for infections, and then a log will appear. Please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called GooredFix.txt).
I was able to do what you directed concerning HostsXpert… but when it came to GooredFix, I only got as far as the beginning of the scan and then the program stops working. I tried the better part of the day and it still wouldn't do it. The pop-ups remain saying the same thing as I mentioned at the beginning, only that in the header, instead of it saying ForceField.exe - Bad Image it might say GoogleUpdate - Bad Image or Graboid.exe - Bad Image… and a hosts of others. Secondly, since you think it might be the Zone Alarm affecting it. I removed Zone Alarm and instead installed AVG for now to see if the problem would disappear. The pop-ups are still there.
OK

Please delete the copy of ComboFix that you have on your desktop - download the latest version from either of the links provided below and run the program again>

Be sure to disable your antivirus prior to running.

Did you get any kind of message with GooredFix?

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
I did as you asked, unfortunately it still won't scan. Nothing appears, no pop-ups telling me the program has stopped working, and no screen to indicate it is scanning either. The annoying pop-ups are still at it and they are casually random as usual. What do you think I should do next?
Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it.
Save it to your desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop** Delete any other copies you may have from your desktop first.

  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
  • Tools->Options->Main tab
  • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

[external image: Posted Image]
——————————————————————–
  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

———————————————————–

  • Press the windows key + R to open a run box
  • Copy/paste this command (with quotation marks) "%userprofile%/Desktop/Combo-Fix.exe" /killall into the run box
  • Press OK to start ComboFix
