Sad to say, changing that and rebooting has yet to fix the problem. The computer still slows to a crawl at random times. Nothing we have done has changed this. -Rappy
Rappy,

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:[external image: Posted Image]
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    [external image: Posted Image]
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.
Nothing special. None of these were running. Coupons was dealt with before, but not deleted. Odd how it finds the install files for mIRC as infected. They were downloaded directly from their website and aren't infected. Same with the mIRC help file. *shrug* Here's the log. -Rappy
Rappy, Alot of scanners flag mIRC as "Riskware". Using it can open up a source of infection. I don't think it is near as risky as P2P programs lime utorrent and limewire. I don't see a log.

No change so far. Still get "lag spikes" while typing. The proxy server wasn't enabled, so that wasn't a cause for any slowdown there either. :(

-Rappy
Rappy,

I'm just not finding the cause for the slowdown. I believe that we have now ruled out malware. I suggest that you post in the windows forum and let the tech team help you figure this out. When you post there, please provide a link back to this thread so that they can see your logs and what we've done here.

Meanwhile, Log looks good :D

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • [external image: Posted Image]
The above procedure will:
  • Implement some cleanup procedures.
  • Reset System Restore.

Please re-enable any security that was disabled.

Cleanup

  • Double click on OTM to run it.
  • Click on CleanUp!
  • When done, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
Odd that the malware issues found were insignificant to the problem I am having. It almost seems like a memory error, but my memory usage in Task Manager is never above 50% nor are any items at higher than 20-30% CPU when the slowdown occurs. Thanks for the help. Everything is uninstalled. -Rappy
Rappy, It is a little strange. It could be that malware has corrupted something so things aren't running quite right. I'd encourage you to give the Tech Team a shot at it. Often they can help. Good Luck and Be Well.
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance. If you're the topic starter, and need this topic reopened, please contact a staff member with the address of the thread. Everyone else please begin a New Topic.
