Hello there,

My google searches are showing fine results, but clicking on them takes me to very different and wrong webpages. I have used malwarebytes, McAfee antivirus, and SuperAntiSpyware Free edition, but the problem persists.

Thank you so much to whoever is reading and responding to this. I am powerless without you.

Here is my HIJACK THIS log:

Hi,

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done two logs should open:
  • DDS.txt
  • Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scrolling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and then click UPLOAD.

Download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Right-click gmer.exe and select Run As Administrator. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<— ROOKIT" entries unless advised!

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked … leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
Post the contents of GMER.txt in your next reply.
I tried running the D.D.S., and it opens into the DOS prompt with some info on it. It has been much longer than 3 minutes, (maybe 25 min) and there have been no logs created. I need to leave for school right now and will leave the DDS running. Be home in 3 hours, Thank you.
Hmm, it shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes usually. If it is still going when you get back close it and move onto GMER.
Well upon arrival home the DDS had still not produced any results. I ran the GMER and it opened up and did the initial scan. No dialog box popped up saying there might be a problem. I performed the second scan and then the program closed without producing a log. Now if I try to open GMER it says "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." It says this when I try to run it as an administrator. I also cannot delete GMER. Any ideas on what I can do now?
Hmm, that doesn't sound good. Let's move straight to removal, there might some nasty Malware involved.

Please download ComboFix to your desktop from one of these locations. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]
  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making IE the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please advise.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Alright I got combo-fix to run! Here's the log:

Hi,

Did you run ComboFix twice? Please post the contents of this file:
C:\QooBox\ComboFix2.txt

Please go to VirSCAN, and have the following file scanned:
c:\documents and settings\bryan kottery\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\hgjjvts7.default\extensions\[removed]\platform\WINNT_x86-msvc\plugins\npmnqmp071301000019.dll
(You will need to have hidden files showing)

Cheers.
I admit that before I started talking to you in the forum I did run combofix hoping that I could solve my problem myself. I didn't make any adjustments, and it didn't help anything. Sorry for not bringing that up. Here's the combofix log you asked for and I will post the VirScan log in my next reply:

Here is the VirScan log: Ok.. the copy to clipboard button did not produce a log, but two of the scans reported something: Authentium 5.1.1 200907021405 2009-07-02 W32/Heuristic-210!Eldorado (Heuristic) F-Prot Possible W32/Heuristic-210!Eldorado (not disinfectable)

*Deregistered* - {79007602-0CDB-4405-9DBF-1257BB3226EE}

This is a sign of a pretty new Rootkit infection that was only added to ComboFix's detection/removal earlier today. Please delete you existing copy and download and run a fresh one, posting the log. Once again, do whatever is necessary to get it to run (Safe Mode + rename). Post the log once done.

Cheers.
Ok, I deleted combofix and downloaded a new one. Here is my new combofix log thank you:

:notworthy: I JUST CHECKED GOOGLE AND IT WORKS!!!!! Are there any other processes we should run? Or do you think I am in the clear?
Yep, looks like it got it

Just one little thing to clean up. We need to run a registry script.
  • Copy the contents of the Code Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as fix.reg
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on your Desktop
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\internet explorer\desktop\components\1]
Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4, and a blank line at the end.

Then right-click on the fix.reg file and click Merge, say Yes to any prompts.

After that, please run MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware again, update it (<
If that comes back clean, and everything is still running fine, then we can wrap this up.
Hey thanks a lot man, Malwarebytes found some kind of koobface worm and got rid of it. I am going to make a small donation to you. Thanks for the help.
