[Resolved] Something wrong?

Ok, i was recently here for problems on my PC. Now that mine is all fixed and working great, thanks to Catbyte and appleoddity. My wife's pc starting to act weird now. No, i wasnt on here while mine was being fixed. Here is the thing, sometimes when the kids are playing a game in her pc, the window will minimize, and the keyboard is unresponsive. Then sometimes a notepad will open, but it shows as if you right click a notepad file and click on properties, instead of the notepad opening to where you write in it.

Almost forgot to add that every few mins if the PC is left alone, a small window pops up stating that it cannot find the flash micro media, or something like that.

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.

You appear to by running McAfee for anti-virus protection but you have some remnants of Symantec(Norton).

  • Please open HijackThis and run Do a system scan only
  • Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):

  • A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES.
  • Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Download TFC to your desktop
  • Close any open windows.
  • Double click the TFC icon to run the program
  • TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
  • Click the Start button to begin the process.
  • Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
  • The program should not take long to finish it's job
  • Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
  • if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Hey Tom, thanks for taking a look. Before i click on that link on how to remove the Norton software, i want to let you know where i go it. My ISP had a contract with Norton, and it was free for me to use with contract from my ISP. Well, at the begining of this year, my ISP signed up with Mcafee, and i was told not to use Ad/Remove programs, that the new install will take care of anything that Norton was using. So i think what was left behind was left on purpose. By removing Norton left over files, will that interfere with Mcafee? My isp is AT&T, formally known as SBC. Let me know what you think.

mooze, By not removing the remnants you run a risk of interfering with McAfee. My guess is that they gave you a program that was supposed to remove Norton and install McAfee without you having to go into add/remove programs or anything? The whole reason that Norton made the removal tools is because using uninstall on Norton products often left remnants and orphans. My guess is that is all you have.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.

  • Return to OTM, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.

The system did have to reboot after OTM was done, but the good thing was i didnt have to navigate to the log file. When windows rebooted, it asked me if i wanted to run OTM.exe, and i click on yes, it then finished loading windows and a notepad opened with the log file inside. Seems to be running fine, but like i had said in the begining, sometimes notepad would open and then the KB was unresponsive. So it may take a while before we actually see a difference. It is still getting this pop up window saying, Cannot fins Macro media Flash. That may be due to a bad game install, i dont know, but it pops up every few mins if the pc is left to idle.

That's saying your Java is out of date. Let's get a different log for a little look deeper.

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and the click UPLOAD.
