I have been noticing that it is taking more time for my computer to load websites and run videos. A week ago I ran spybot and it found adware and tracking cookies.

Hello bobbob

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum,

All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at your own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

You have some malicious programs running on your system.

Do this first…Important

Disable the TeaTimer, leave it disabled, do not turn it back on until we're done or it will prevent fixes from taking

  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
  • If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, Click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer.<–You need to do this for it to take effect
Please do not proceed until the TeaTimer is disabled

I need you to uninstall these programs via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel

Viewpoint
speedscanpro
Performance Center

Uniblue RegistryBooster 2009 <– Using registry cleaners are dangerous , remove legit entries and you will see no difference in system performance, remove the wrong entries ( and they sometimes do ) and you will wind up using your computer for a doorstop.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.<– Don't forget this
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.
I do not have Viewpoint in my add/remove programs. I had a Viewpoint media player which I never remember using. I deleted it. I also don't have speedscanpro or Performance Center.

Hi,

Malwarebytes found some Vundo, there's most likely more to remove.

You need to enable windows to Show all Files and Folders
Instructions for your Operating System HERE

Look in your Add Remove Programs for this program and uninstall it if its present.
C:\Program Files\Ascentive

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Performance Center] C:\Program Files\Ascentive\Performance Center\APCMain.exe -m

C:\Program Files\Ascentive<–Delete this folder

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
  • See this Link for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
  • Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Good Morning, Your logs look fine  Just a word of warning, I see you have run Combofix before, this is a very powerful tool and should not be taken lightly, it should only be run under supervision , its not a general all purpose cleaning tool. All systems and infections are different, what combofix has fixed on one system may damage another. Also by running it before, you erased any clues of what you may have been infected with. This forum, myself and sUbs will not be responsible if you run this tool on your own and damage your system. How are things running now??
Good Morning, Are you sure everything is ok? It seemed like there were more problems. Everything seems to be running fine. However, I am concerned about my usb device. I have put it in this computer several times and I transferred it to another computer and an anti virus window came up.
Its possible that your thumb drive is infected, this happens sometimes

Make sure your flash drive is plugged in and run this tool
Download and Run FlashDisinfector

You may have a flash drive infection. These worms travel through your portable drives. If they have been connected to other machines, they may now be infected.
  • Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
Note: Some security programs will flag Flash_Disinfector as being some sort of malware, you can safely ignore these warnings
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection.
Anti-Malware programs flag Flash Disinfector as being infected because of in which the way it runs.

Let me know how it went
All of a sudden I am having some very weird problems. A few minutes after i put my usb into my computer I got 4 trojans. When i clicked on your flash disinfector link a window popped up to save file but when i clicked it, the download stopped and it said that Flash disinfector couldn't be saved on my desktop and that I should try saving it to a different location. I tried opening the link a few times after that and it kept taking me to a web page that said "Firefox can't find the file at http://download.bleepingcomputer.com//sUBs...ctor.exe." I went to another website that had a link for flash disinfector and the exact same thing happened. The first time I was able to save file but every other time a web page popped up that said "Firefox can't find the file at http://download.bleepingcomputer.com//sUBs...ctor.exe." I tried to reboot but the same thing happened. I don't know if you need this information but there is a hidden file on my usb called autorun.inf and a hidden folder called Recycle.
Hi,

Flash Disinfector worked for me.

What I would do since the flash drives are so cheap is destroy it and throw it away as not to take a chance reinfecting your computer. If you want to save it then you can plug it in to the usb port , right click on it and and select scan with Symantec. That should tell you if its infected or not.

Scan your system with this program

Run this free online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Post the log along with a New HJT Log into your next reply.
Sorry I haven't responded in so long,

Hi,

Everything Kaspersky found was in your Symantec Quarantine folder. Open up Symantec and look for the Quarantine folder and remove it all.

You can delete this
C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\58\44eef97a-7fba9120

You log looks fine

How is your system behaving now? Did you ever run the flash disinfector ?
My system seems to be behaving fine except for one big problem. When i click on the link for flash disinfector and click save file, it still gives me a trojan and it doesn't download the program. I scanned my usb device and it seems to be clean now. I had 1 trojan on it that was located in the Recycle file and it's in quarantine. I thought that the problem would be solved when you told me to delete this file C:\Documents and Settings\Paul\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\58\44eef97a-7fba9120 because Kapersky described it as a trojan downloader. There were actually two files like this one, one was 44eef97a-7fba9120 and 44eef97a-7fba9120.idx. It is the same name but the file extension in the second file was ".idx". I just deleted both files. .I have no clue what this could be.
Hi

To run the Flash Disinfector you need to disable your Anti Virus program, its preventing it from running.

ATF Cleaner <– Yours to keep, run it now and then to clean out the clutter.

Malwarebytes <– Yours to keep also, check for updates and run a scan now and then.

Combofix <—Is not a general cleaning tool, just run it with supervision or you can bork your system

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

    • [external image: Posted Image]

  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

The above procedure will:
  • Delete the following:
    • ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present
  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.

  • How did I get infected in the first place ?
Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
  • Tutorial for System Restore <– Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 3 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
