Hello joja,
Welcome to What the Tech.
My name is OCD, I will be helping you with your log today.

Please be advised, as I am still in training, all my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advise.
This may cause a delay, but I will do my best to keep it as short as possible.

I am checking over your HijackThis log now, I will post back shortly with instructions.

Hello joja,

  • You may want to print out these instructions for reference prior to proceeding.
  • This solution is specifically tailored for this particular problem, please do not attempt to use this solution on another computer.
  • If you have any questions, or are uncertain about any steps please ask 'before' proceeding.

P2P programs form a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P program is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realize. There have been cases where people's Passwords, Address Books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured program.

This article from InfoWorld illustrates perfectly the dangers of a poorly configured P2P program.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/09/06/…ID-theft_1.html

Many of the programs come bundled with other unwanted programs, but even the ones free of any bundled software are not safe to use.

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

Removal of this program is entirely your decision. If you choose to keep it I ask that you not use it until after I have given you the "All Clean".

You have the following P-2-P program(s) installed:
  • uTorrent
This is how you uninstall it/them:
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following uTorrent (if present):
NOTE: Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Close the Control Panel when finished.

- - - - - Next - - - - -

Please locate the folder in red and delete it and it's entire contents.
Be sure to delete the entire folder that is designated.
  • C:\Program Files\uTorrent
Right click the file or folder, select Delete.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

  • Right Click ATF-Cleaner.exe and select "Run As Administrator" to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Thanks for your help.Seems a bit slow still but maybe for other reasons rather then virus. How do the logs look? Thanks again for you time.

joja,

Please read the following carefully, having this installed might be hindering our progress.

We have noticed that many people seeking help from us are coming with infections contracted from the use of P2P programs.

Because of this, we felt we needed to change our policy on the use of P2P file sharing programs.

  • If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. We will withdraw our help should you not agree to their removal.
  • If we clean your computer of infection, and you return to us a short time later with an infection contracted by the use of P2P programs, we will refuse our help.
We do not ask you to do this without reason.

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

We see no purpose in cleaning your machine if you use P2P programs, as it is pretty much certain that if you continue to use them then you will get infected again.

You have the following P-2-P program(s) installed:

uTorrent
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present):
  • uTorrent
NOTE: Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Please locate the folder in red and delete it and it's entire contents.
Be sure to delete the entire folder that is designated.
  • C:\Program Files\uTorrent

Go to Start >> Run and type in msconfig

joja,

Your log still shows a running process for uTorrent. Are you rebooting before you run a new HijackThis scan?

Please try again to remove this folder.

Please locate the folder in red and delete it and it's entire contents.
Be sure to delete the entire folder that is designated.

  • C:\Program Files\uTorrent
Right click the file or folder, select Delete.

- - - - - Next - - - - -

Run HijackThis and select Do a System Scan Only

Before proceeding, make sure all programs and browser windows are closed, EXCEPT HijackThis
Place check marks next to the following items:
  • R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
  • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
  • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
Now with all browsers closed, click on Fix Checked, then EXIT the program

You just did this next step in our last post but the change did not take effect.
Please remember to click the apply button after selecting "normal startup"

Go to Start >> Run and type in msconfig
On the General tab select normal startup
Click Apply, OK your way out. (if prompted to restart your computer, please do so)

- - - - - Next - - - - -

Please re-run the: Eset Online Scanner
(You will need Internet Explorer to run this scan)
  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.

Reboot, on your next post please provide the following:
  • ESET log.txt
  • New HijackThis log
  • Tell me how your computer is running at the moment.

Hey OCD,thanks very much for your help, the ESET log was clean, and the two (no name) items on hijack this log are gone now.My PC seems to be running better. Thanks for taking the time to help.

joja,

The absence of symptoms and no obvious signs of malware can be misleading. It is important to continue to follow all the steps requested.
I want to get your computer completely free of any malicious items and get you on your way as quickly and safely as possible.

With the above in mind:

Please furnish the logs requested in my last post so we can expedite this and get you on your way, with a clean machine.
