The infections continue after being connected to the internet. Used Spybot-S&D, Malwarebytes, McAfee, and Windows defender. Each fine different problems but none remove them permanently. The computer won't assign drive letters to flash drives, external media and the like. The computer will see the external device in the hardware device section.The computer does assign driven letters to the HD and CDROM. There seem to be excessive amounts of processes running. Here is the log.

Hi Yem,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Disable_…ams_t96260.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Thanks for the assistance Tomk, however I hit a little snag. Yesterday after rebooting the computer I came to the log on screen, and now as soon as I click on the user it logs on and then before completing it logs off. This occurs even in safe mode. This evening I am using the Ultimate Boot CD ver 5 to evacuate the our personal files, should I have to scuttle the laptop, as windows will not assign drives to my removable media but I can in Linux, it rocks! As soon as the transfer is complete I will look for a way to log on install and run ComboFix and report back. Thank you.
Yem, Let me know if you run into a snag with the process you've described. I'm relatively certain that the Tech Team can help guide you if you need help.
Ok well I used Linux to get to the desktop and drop combo fix on it but I can't log on yet. As soon as I boot it plays the log on sound pauses, taskman won't respond through Alt-Ctrl-Delete and after a few seconds it plays the log off sound and then I'm at the select user screen and each time I click on the user (There is only one account) it quickly logs off and puts us back to the user screen. I have booted hit F8 and gone through all the log on options (Safe mode, debugging mode, restore mode, last known… etc.). So as it stands I can get to the HD though Linux, what file can I mod with a text editor to cut off all the options before it kicks me out? And I noticed that somehow it picked up a few updates and when I went to shutdown from the user screen it gave me the chance to load the six updates, but I don't know how they got there. I went ahead and installed them but it didn't help. Thank you for your time.
Yem,

I suggest that you post over in the Windows forum and let one of the Tech Team guide you. I'll keep this thread open because I suspect you have been infected with Vundo. Once they get you up and running again, come back here and we will see if we can get you cleaned up. You should probably post a link there back to this thread in case there is something in the log that you posted that will help them help you.

Yem,

ComboFix cleaned up alot of garbage. :thumbup:

Part of the problem you have left is that you have two anit-virus programs running. That's not good. They can interfere with each other. Symantec (Norton) is up to date and McAfee isn't so I'm assuming you'll want to keep the Symantec (Norton).

Please download the McAfee removal tool from HERE. Double click it to run and follow directions.

BitTorrent and BitComet
You have BitTorrent and BitComet, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:

See Clean/Infected P2P Programs here

I would recommend that you uninstall BitTorrent and BitComet, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\zincv.sys

    Folder::
    c:\program files\PopCap Games

    Registry::
    [HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\GloballyOpenPorts\List]
    "17225:TCP"=-
    "17225:UDP"=-
    "6887:TCP"=-
    "6887:UDP"=-
    "12563:TCP"=-
    "12563:UDP"=-

    Driver::
    tclxrg
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
Sorry about the delay, it took a couple trys with the website to complete.
here is the Combo Fix log after the script.

First let me say at this point, the computer now assigns drives to flash media and I'm guessing the ipod will work.

Yem,

Unfortunately you now have a couple infections that were not in your last log.

Your computer appears to have been infected by a backdoor trojan. These programs have the ability to steal passwords and other information from your system. If you use your computer for sensitive purposes such as internet banking then I recommend you take the following steps immediately:
  • Use another, uninfected computer to change all your internet passwords, especially ones with financial implications such as banks, paypal, ebay, etc. You should also change the passwords for any other site you use.
  • Call your bank(s), credit card company or any other institution which may be affected and advise them that your login/password or credit card information may have been stolen and ask what steps to take with regard to your account.
  • Consider what other private information could possibly have been taken from your computer and take appropriate steps
This infection can almost certainly be cleaned, but as the malware could be configured to run any program a remote attacker requires, it will be impossible to be 100% sure that the machine is clean, if this is unacceptable to you then you should consider reformatting the system partition and reinstalling Windows as this is the only 100% sure answer.

If you wish to reformat then please let me know in your next response, I'll now continue with instructions for cleaning.

Download Rooter.exe to your desktop

  • Then doubleclick it to start the tool
  • A Notepad file containing the report will open, also found at %systemdrive%\Rooter.txt. Post that here

Then drag your copy of ComboFix to your recycle bin and get a fresh copy.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Yem,

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\twex.exe

    Registry::
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
    "ProxyServer"=-
    "ProxyOverride"=-

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
    "Userinit"="C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit,"

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{7DB2D5A0-7241-4E79-B68D-6309F01C5231}]

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\apibk]

Also please give me a new HijackThis log.
