Hi I bought a new Acer One net book about 3 weeks ago and the last 2 weeks it has been freezing and acting very sluggish. I ran malwarebytes on it and it found 2 infections and I removed them but it is still not running how I would expect it to. I downloaded HJT and have my logfile - if anyone can take a look to see if they see something bad that would be great. Here is my HJT log:

Hi - Thank you for reviewing my log, it is greatly appreciated. "I don't see any evidence of a 3rd Party Firewall installed on your computer. Can you please tell me if you have one installed, and verify that it is active." - There is not a 3rd party firewall installed "If you have Windows Firewall enabled please let me know." - I verified that it is enabled "If you do not have a Firewall installed, please go to one of the links below and download and install one." - Do you want me to download and install a 3rd party firewall in addition to having Windows Firewall enabled? - I ran malwarebytes off of a flash drive before, so I will download it to the machine this time. I will wait for your reply to my question above about the firewall before I proceed. Thanks again OCD

Slight change of approach. Please leave your Windows firewall enabled for now.
After we have cleaned your computer we will address the issue of changing to a 3rd party firewall for added protection.
Changing it now might just complicate our efforts.

First I would like to say thank you for your help so far. Second I have to tell you that I think I screwed up. I ran the custom fix on OTListIt2 then forgot to close it while trying to download the eset online scanner - during the download everything froze and I waited for about 10 minutes before saying screw it and did a hard shut down. Upon rebooting, i get a message saying something to the effect of windows cannot load your profile - I clicked ok on the message and it said windows will start using a temp profile. Right now it is still trying to start and has not loaded for close to 10 minutes - I still cannot do anything except move the mouse. I am sorry for not reading directions carefully - I hope I didn't screw up too bad, where do we go from here?

If after booting up your computer you still have the profile issue, you can fix it like this.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151/

Create a new user profile on the domain computer

1. Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrator credentials.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

5. In the left pane, click the Users folder.
6. On the Action menu, click New User.
7. Enter the appropriate user information, and then click Create.

Copy files to the new user profile

1. Log on as a user other than the user whose profile you are copying files to or from.
2. In Windows Explorer, click Tools, click Folder Options, click the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK.
3. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy user data from.
4. Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click each file and subfolder in this folder, except the following files:
* Ntuser.dat
* Ntuser.dat.log
* Ntuser.ini
5. On the Edit menu, click Copy.
6. Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\New_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and New_Username is the name of the user profile that you created in the "Create a New User Profile" section.
7. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
8. Log off the computer, and then log on as the new user.

Post back and let us know how you stand
Ok - Thank you that worked - I created a new user account and successfully transferred over the files to that new account. Everything seems to be working correctly now and i see the same desktop (minus the background image). What's next?
