I have only had 2 viruses (that I know of or caused any noticeable problems) in all my years of pc use. The first I removed easily after it was spotted by an antivirus app. This was years ago. The virus I THINK I have now removed (though AVG could not, but I managed to delete all of it I could find from its home on one of my two external hd's) seems to still be causing some typical "slowed down" problems. However, even after running registry cleaners, I'm pretty sure that things could be a lot cleaner and smoother overall. There is very little I want running on startup. That will be something to take care of as soon as I get the more serious problem eliminated for sure… the Virus was labeled by AVG as "Trojan Horse Adload ___ (something I cant recall and AVg wont find it now) I also could not quarantine it or delete it with AVG. I got the "too large to blah blah" msg. This is a Dell 8200, I think about 6 years old. I can get you the specifics on it if that will help. The reason Im going into that is im wondering just how hard I really am pushing this pc. I have a 200gb and 500gb external connected, magicjack ushb connection for my phone, an external DVD drive, and usually a camera charging/moving photo and some video. If that isnt conneted my mp3 player usually is. That said, after booting it takes a few seconds for the Xp boot screen to appear- just like normal- then is dissapears and takes forever to finally get to the start menu. I am using crystalxp's bricopacks (a sort of less resource hogging windowblinds app) and rocketdock. These dont seem to make any difference that is noticeable. I was always about xp in classic mode, to hell with eye candy, etc.. but the rocketdock really helps when ()ANOTHER TOPIC) I a m using my TV as a second monitor via my Nvidia card's dualview options. IN A NUTSHELL: ThiNGS SEEM TO GO WELL AFTER ALL THIS IS "WARMED UP" BUT SHOULD IT TAKE ABOUT 6 MINUTES TO GET TO MY DESKTOP AFTER BOOTING? i rUN THIS PC PRETTY HARD< MULTITASKING WHILE DOWNLOADING AND SEEDING WITH UTORRENT, WITH MY IRC SCRIPT RUNNING, AND AVG OF 2 FIREFOX PAGES UP… I CAN DO ALL THIS AND STILL POP IN wc3 FOR A QUICK GAME OR DECRYPT A DVD , FOR EXAMPLE, IS THIS VIRUS GONE< HOW BAD IS MY REGISTRY AND STARTUP< AND WHAT CAN I DO IF ANYTHHING TO GET MORE SPEED IN GENERAL OUT OF THIS OLDER PC UNTIL I DO ADD SOME RAM?

IF YOU GOT A MAJOR "TOO LONG DIDNT READ" ON THIS- TRY THIS: PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS LOG AND MY NEXT AND TELL ME IF YOU SEE ANYTHING JUST SCREWED UP IN GENERAL , THANK YOU VERY MUCH, SRSLY.

Hello simon777

Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum,

All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at your own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

Registry Cleaners<– There not recommended, remove the wrong entry and you then use your computer for a door stop, remove legit entries and you will see no difference in system performance. I have been in computing since windows 3.1 and have never had any use for registry cleaners.

MULTITASKING WHILE DOWNLOADING AND SEEDING WITH UTORRENT
Read this please.

We have noticed that many people seeking help from us are coming with infections contracted from the use of P2P programs.

Because of this, we changed our malware forum's policy on the use of P2P file sharing programs.

  • If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. Help will be withdrawn should you not agree to their removal.
  • If we clean your computer of infection, and you return to us a short time later with an infection contracted by the use of P2P programs, volunteer analysts will refuse their help.

We do not ask you to do this without reason.

P2P (File Sharing ) programs form a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P program is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realize. There have been cases where people's Passwords, Address Books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured program.

Many of the programs come bundled with other unwanted programs, but even the ones free of any bundled software are not safe to use.

This article from InfoWorld illustrates the dangers of a poorly configured P2P program.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/09/06/…ID-theft_1.html

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

The rest of your log looks fine, no malware that I can see. Running a reg cleaner and downloading files with a P2P program, I really am not sure what your have done to your system.
