The basic requirements for safe surfing are a firewall and an anti-virus program, and this PC shows neither. As a result the machine is a slime magnet and the best advice I can give is to back up any important data and reformat and reinstall. I'd warn your friend that if s/he uses the machine for internet banking or shopping that card/login details could be compromised and they should change any passwords used via a different PC and keep an eye on any accounts or cards that have been used. I can let you have links to free security software to help keep the machine clean in the future if you'd like.
He had an antivirus installed at the time. I have since removed it and was planning on installing a sturdier McAfee than what he had. Not sure if he had firewall enabled or not. Bottom line though, is this thing so compromised that it can't be eradicated?
It's got multiple slime issues from what I can see in the two logs, and I do mean multiple, and you can't rely on everything nasty being visible in these. That and the potential for file and setting corruption means that it's going to be quicker, easier and more sensible to nuke and pave.
Ok, thanks for the advice. Will plan on doing so. This thing was not letting a user with Admin rights do things, like edit msconfig, start/stop services, etc.
