I believe one of my computers might be infected with a virus. It started with one of my applications always crashing when I tried to open it. I then noticed that my anti-virus program (AVG) was no longer showing up in the Notification Area of the Taskbar. I could no longer receive virus definition updates and I wasn't able to receive updates via Windows Update. I ran a complete scan with AVG and it did not find any threats. I uninstalled AVG and installed Avira. I was unable to download updates automatically, but I managed to install them manually. In any case, I ran a complete scan and it did not find any threats. I uninstalled Avira and installed Kaspersky anti-virus. I am able to receive updates with Kaspersky, but like the other anti-virus programs I had installed, it would not show up in the Notification Area of the Taskbar. I ran a complete scan and it did not find any threats. I then proceeded to run scans with Spybot, Ad-Aware and Stinger. All 3 applications did not find any threats. I installed Windows Defender and Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (Apr. 09). Windows Defender did not find any threats, but it was not able to download any updates which means it did not find any threats using the 2006 definition file. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool did not find any threats either. I've run the following applications: 1 - ATF Ran ATF and selected every option. Rebooted. 2 - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Ran MBAM and no threats were detected. Log file included. 3 - Rooter Rootkit Detector Ran Rooter but it would not complete. When I first opened it, I would get the following error message: "Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c". I could continue if I clicked on "Continue". It would scan a few things but seem to hang. I booted into Safe Mode and I ran Rooter again. I got the same error message and once I continued, it seemed to hang also. Rebooted (into Windows Normal). 4 - Old Timer List It 2 I ran Old Timer and the log file is included. 5 - HijackThis Ran HijackThis and the log file is included. 6 - Dr. Web Cure it I was unable to run Dr. Web in Windows so I booted into Safe Mode. Ran a complete scan with Dr. Web and 2 threats were detected: TightVNC and mvludnq.nor (Trojan.Siggen.2192). I got Dr. Web to remove mvludnq.nor, but kept TightVNC as I installed this application and use it on a regular basis. I do not consider TightVNC to be a threat. Rebooted into Windows Normal. Still could not run Dr. Web. Booted into Safe Mode and ran Dr. Web again. It detected and removed mvludnq.nor again. ***Update*** Once Dr. Web cures or deletes mvludnq.nor, the file recreates itself automatically. Any suggestions? Thank you Mario *****Update***** I've run an online scan using Windows Live Safety Scanner and it detects the mvludnq.nor file as a threat. Windows Live Safety Scanner labels this virus as TrojanDownloader:Win32/Tonick.gen!B as apposed to Dr. Web's Trojan.Siggen. Windows Live Safety Scanner says it has cured the file, but running an additional scan reveals the virus is still present.
Hi Mario Maillet,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Your Java is out of date.

Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name except for JRE 6 update 11.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

Java™ 6 update 11 can be updated from the Java Control Panel. Go Start > Control Panel(Classic View) > Java (looks like a coffee cup) > Update Tab > Update Now. An update should begin; follow the prompts.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner

  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.

Java™ 6 update 11 can be updated from the Java Control Panel. Go Start > Control Panel(Classic View) > Java (looks like a coffee cup) > Update Tab > Update Now. An update should begin; follow the prompts.

I was not able to update Java from the Control Panel. It kept saying I had the current version. I was able to update to Java 6 Update 13 from www.java.com.

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner

I was unable to complete Eset Online Scanner. Once I click on Start, it would prompt me to install an ActiveX component, which I installed. I was then able to click on Start. The scanner engine would initialize, but it would display the following error message: "Error: Update Failed (200)". Same results in Safe Mode with Networking.
Mario Maillet,

Well then. We'll try a different one.

Run this online scan Click HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan

  • You need to use IE to run this scan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open…click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

In your next reply please post:
Panda ActiveScan report
new HijackThis log

I believe this instructions are not current because they were listed in a different order for me. Instead of "Check Now", the button displayed was "Scan now". Once I clicked on Scan now, it prompted me to install the ActiveX component. Once installed, it downloaded the required files. Once the files were downloaded and installed, it started scanning right away without asking which folders were to be scanned.

I ended up running the scan in Safe Mode with Networking because Explorer.exe kept freezing in Normal Mode. It found 1 infection and I was able to save the following log file:

  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Once I closed GMER, I received an error message in the Command Prompt: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."

Things are already looking better; I was able to access Windows Updates and Windows Defender was able to receive updates. Also, I am now able to access the ESET's online scan.

I checked in C:\WINDOWS and mvludnq.nor was still present. Rebooted. The file is still present.
Mario Maillet,

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\mvludnq.nor

    Folder::

    Registry::

    Driver::
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
Here is the ComboFix log:

Mario Maillet,

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::
    c:\documents and settings\Allset\Local Settings\Temp\QU.exe
    c:\documents and settings\Allset\Local Settings\Temp\YACC.exe
    c:\documents and settings\Allset\Local Settings\Temp\YLHSP.exe

    Driver::
    QU
    YACC
    YLHSP

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
Here is the ComboFix log:

I was unable to run the Kaspersky Online Scan. It was giving me a java error that it could not run Kaspersky Online Scanner 7.0 because I already have Kaspersky 8.0 installed on my computer.
Mario Maillet,

My fault. I forgot you had Kaspersky on board. Let's do this one instead:

I need you to run the following scan: Eset Online Scanner

  • Place a check mark in the box YES, I accept the Terms Of Use
  • Click the Start button.
  • Now click the Install button.
  • Click Start. The scanner engine will initialize and update.
  • Do Not place a check mark in the box beside Remove found threats.
  • Click the Scan button. The scan will now run, please be patient.
  • When the scan finishes click the Details tab.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the C:\ProgramFiles\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt into your next reply.
I anticipated you were going to ask me to run an online scan using another provided, so I used ESET earlier. Here is the log file: # version=4 # OnlineScanner.ocx=1.0.0.635 # OnlineScannerDLLA.dll=1, 0, 0, 79 # OnlineScannerDLLW.dll=1, 0, 0, 78 # OnlineScannerUninstaller.exe=1, 0, 0, 49 # vers_standard_module=4056 (20090506) # vers_arch_module=1.064 (20080214) # vers_adv_heur_module=1.066 (20070917) # EOSSerial=709096f445ebb14390676a5661eb9e0e # end=finished # remove_checked=false # unwanted_checked=false # utc_time=2009-05-06 05:22:16 # local_time=2009-05-06 01:22:16 (-0500, Eastern Daylight Time) # country="Canada" # osver=5.1.2600 NT Service Pack 3 # scanned=315622 # found=1 # scan_time=2797 C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\05052009_142339\WINDOWS\mvludnq.nor a variant of Win32/Delf.OEX trojan 60248B6AD5F3B27A197E037186D63074
