Hey guys,

I'm on my girlfriends laptop. Shes got Windows XP home service pack 2. I cannot upgrade to SP3, most likely due to all this malware. Windows update isn't working, neither is internet explorer (to access the site).

A few problems I have run into:

Bluescreen (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, but this only happens on full startup, but when I do selective or diagnostic startup it blue screens, mostly when loading anti-spyware software)

Thanks in advance everyone
You've got a seriously infected system and a lack of adequate security programs, which is why the computer is so infected - the only sensible option is to back up any important files and then reformat and reinstall the Operating System. There's no way of knowing what malicious files have been dropped, legitimate files replaced, corrupted or infected and security setting lowered making reinfection more likely in the future, which makes the computer a prime candidate for R & R. I can let you have some links to free security programs, which should help keep the system clean in future if you wish, but the OS itself is beyond help i'm afraid.
Thats what I figured. Thanks. This is my girlfriends laptop, apparently shes the type that clicks on whatever. I'll be putting Avast, and Spybot on this computer when I reformat. Are there any other free tools i should put on here?

This is my girlfriends laptop, apparently shes the type that clicks on whatever.

Bless! :smack:

The AV is fine, but you'll need a firewall too. There are a few free ones available:

Comodo Firewall Pro, available here. This download has both a firewall and anti-virus in the same package, so be sure that you uncheck the AV option if you choose to install this one.
PC Tools Firewall Plus, available here.
Online Armor Free, available here.

It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time, but you can download them all to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.

Understanding and Using Firewalls: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial60.html

I like Winpatrol, available here, for real-time protection that runs happily alongside the AV.

Some bedtime reading: This is a very good tutorial about keeping your computer safe and secure on the internet. Perhaps somebody might like to read this, or not!
