[Resolved] internet keeps "freezing up"

For the past 2-3 weeks my computer keeps "freezing" every 10-20 minutes. It will be working fine and then the connection will just stop working in all the windows I have running. While it "freezes" the tabs say its loading and it lasts for approx 1-3 minutes,and then after it runs fine. It seems to always do it after I have taken a quick break, but it also does it every 10-20 minutes no matter what. When I open up the task manager window it takes some time to open up and it shows that my CPU usage is at 100% but when everything is running fine it opens right up and shows a very small number % for CPU usage. I have Windows XP and use Firefox. I am somewhat computer dumb so forgive me if I don't explain things properly. Below is a copy of the hijackthis log and I hope I have done everything correctly and have posted in the right section. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.

  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and the click UPLOAD.

Your Java is out of date and you have other old versions still on your computer, those old versions are now a security vulnerability:

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Run JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer - Version 6 update 13

Limewire
You have Limewire, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

I would recommend that you uninstall Limewire, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

Please reboot your computer (turn off and then back on)


Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.

I have run into a problem and need some help. I clicked on the JavaRa link and downloaded it. I don't know what you mean by "unzip it to its own Folder". When I went to my desktop it was there under its own zip folder so I don't know if it did it automatically or if it is something I have to do. When I click on it a window comes up and there are 3 options to click on: When I click on the JavaRa.exe option a box pops up that says "compressed (zipped) folders warning". In the box it says "this application may depend on other compressed files in this folder. For the application to run properly, it is recommended that you first extract all files." The options I have at the bottom of the the pop up box are 1.extract all, 2. run, 3. cancel. What should I do?

When downloading the JRE there were a few steps that I had to take that weren't in your instructions but I had to guess what I thought was right. After I clicked the link for the JRE version 6 update 3 it got somewhat confusing so I just went ahead and tried to follow your instructions as much as possible. At the top of the page it wanted me to click on something that would take me to the Java webpage and download Active control X. I did not do this. Below this was a section that said available downloads and there was only one to choose from so I went ahead and downloaded it. It said that is was the version 6 update 13 but was for offline (i don't remember exactly what else it said). Underneath that option was another section that said optional downloads and there were 2 different ones in this section and they were both for the version 6 update 13 but since it was under optional I did not download. Sorry if this all sounds so confusing….. Im trying to explain this as best as I can but it is difficult because this is all stuff that I am not familiar with. Everything else in your instructions were fairly straightforward except the JRE section. Here is what I have.   • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English or the appropriate language…and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the JavaRa log, in your next reply.

My computer seems to be running good but when I have been away from it for a while and my screen saver has been up, it takes a little while to get going. Is this normal? It doesn't takes a really long time to load, but it definitely doesn't load right away.
