Earlier today I had an alert that this machine was infected in many files with numerous viruses. I ran an Avira anti virus scan and it came back clean, but when I checked the quarantine it showed 2 instances of TR/Dldr.FraudLoad.eeq which I deleted. I'm afraid remnants remain somewhere in the machine. Are my concerns unfounded?
Hi,

Download OTListIt2 to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTListIt2.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.
Also, download Rooter.exe to your desktop
  • Then doubleclick it to start the tool
  • A Notepad file containing the report will open, also found at %systemdrive%\Rooter.txt (Where %systemdrive% is usually C: or the drive that you have installed Windows). Post that in your next reply.
Thanks.
Here is the OTList log. I ran it twice. The first time it ran for about two seconds then it stopped. Rooter log next.

< End of report >
When I try to run Rooter, a small blue window appears, it looks like a C prompt window if that is the term, I'm a greenhorn at this stuff.
I should have put this in the last message. It says 'NAVIPROMO' in the blue window, and outside the windoe it says 'administrator'.
Hi,

Please try right-clicking Rooter, and selecting Run As Administrator… to run it. It should popup with a blue windows as you described, but hopefully it wont stop at NaviPromo this time.

Also, please run OTListIt2 again. Under the Extra Registry header please select SafeList. Select None in all the other sections, and then click run Scan. Please post the contents of Extra.txt in your next reply.

Are you having any problems in general or did you just want to check the computer is clean?
Here is the Extras log. Rooter still hangs on Navipromo even when Run as Administrator. The machine runs fine otherwise. thought there may be remnants of fraudload hiding somewhere.
OTListIt Extras logfile created on: 4/23/2009 7:55:28 AM - Run 3

Looks like Avira did a good job, there seem to be no traces of infection left on your machine. If you have no more concerns then we can clean up these tools and send you on your way :)
Thanx for your help. One question. I use a wireless (secured) internet connection for two computers. My neighbor is a software engineer. Is there anyway he could tap into one of the machines? I notice every so often that the internet connection on one of the computers has been changed from the secured connection to the wireless router/cable modem, or am I just being paranoid. Thanks again. I'll clean up on your instructions.
What Wireless security settings are you using, it it WEP, or WPA? If you use WPA (or WPA2) with a strong password, you should be fine.

To help cleanup, open OTListIt2 and hit the Clean Up button in the top right corner. You will have to restart you system after doing so to complete the process.
All clened up. Not sure if it WEP or WAN are the security settings. Is it strange that the coonection should switch to the router on its own?
I'm sure I quite understand what you are saying. You mentioned that you are using a Wireless connection (i.e. through a Wireless Router) but then you said that your connection has changed to the Router.

It might be that our Tech guys over in our Networking forum may be able to answer this question better.
