Hello….! My name is Ernie and a friend of mine at work recommended this site , saying it has helped him out tremendiously at times. My delimia is that my computer has become infected with some type of worm , that I can not seem to get rid of after everything I have tried .. I have run SpyBot , AdAware , & Malware Bytes>> I have AVG and CA anti-virus and still can't seem to get it .. Here is my HiJack this log , and if anyone knows what can fix it , I would appreciate it very much .. !

Hi,

I notice that you have 2 AntiVirus programs running (AVG + CA). While this may seem like a good idea, multiple AntiVirus programs running at the same time can conflict with each other as well as slowing your system down unnecessarily. I recommend you pick one of them and remove the other.

Please download DaonolFix from the link below and save it to your Desktop
Download Mirror #1
  • Double-click DaonolFix.exe to run it.
  • Select 1. Find Daonol (no fix) by typing 1 and pressing Enter.
  • You will see a lot of files being listed - don't worry, they are just being scanned.
  • A log will open, please post the contents of that log in your next reply (it can also be found on your desktop, called DaonolFix.txt).

Download ComboFix by sUBs from here or here

Note: If you already have a copy of ComboFix on your system it is essential that you delete it before downloading this copy.

**Save it to your desktop**

We need to disable one or more of your security programs so that they do not interfere with ComboFix.

You need to disable TeaTimer, so that it doesn't interfere with our fix.

This is a two step process.
First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, click once on Resident Protection, then right-click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For both versions :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go to the bottom of the vertical panel on the left, click Tools
  • Then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. If you are prompted to install the Recovery Console I recommend you go ahead and hit yes.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log

Notes:
  • Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
  • ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
  • Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you - please let me know.
  • ComboFix disconnects your machine from the internet when it runs. This connection should be automatically restored when ComboFix completes its run. If ComboFix runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Thanks.
Thanks for the advice … I'll print this out and start it hopefully when I get home tonight . One quick question , which Anti-virus would you recommend keeping or deleting ..?
Well, since CA comes with a Firewall as well, I recommend you keep that and remove AVG. However, if you prefer you can remove CA and then install another Firewall. I haven't used CA so I can't comment on the program itself.
I may keep the CA. I got it free through Brighthouse when I got Road Runner. On a side note , I had Symantic , and attempted to uninstall it when it expired and when I did get the CA. But for some reason it won't let me uninstall all of it , and I have not been able to get rid of it completely … I have heard a few mixed emothins of AVG , not too much of CA , so no news could be good news .. lol
There's a little tool to help removing the rest of Symantec/Norton:

Norton Removal Tool
  • Download the Norton Removal Tool and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close and applications and browsers that you may have open.
  • Double-click the Norton Removal Tool on your Desktop.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions, and reboot if and when necessary.
Hi there … Well , it looks like I will finally have the chance to work on my comouter tonight .. LOL Its been a non stop hectic schedule since I was able to post here and driving me crazy that I haven't gotten the chance to try the fix … LOL

Any next steps I need to take , or did this clean out the problem …. ??
Hi,

Its looking pretty good. First of all, you appear to be using both CA and Symantec AntiVirus. Using multiple AV programs can cause conflicts and also bog down you system. Since CA is part of a full suite, I would recommend you remove Symantec.

Please do this:
  • Copy the contents of the Code Box below to Notepad.
  • Name the file as fix.reg
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • and Save it on the desktop
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{0cff80e6-e207-11db-a288-0017319c5bd7}]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{48232918-fc87-11dd-a2ea-0017319c5bd7}]
Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4, and a blank line at the end.

Then right-click on the fix.reg file and click merge, say yes to any prompts.

How is the computer running?
So far so good , it has seemed to clear up a couple problems already. I thank you again for your time and help.! I was planning on removing the Symantic last night as well , but it ended up getting late & the phone would NOT stop ringing .. lol So , yes the samantic removal will take place tonight. Should I do the removal proces you posted earlier in the thread by downloading the tool from Symantic , or just go straight to the fix.reg process ? I also plan on doing a HJT on my work laptop as well to post on here .. hopefully soon…lol
The fix.reg is for something else, not for Symantec. I would recommend you uninstall Symantec using its own uninstaller, and then run the removal tool to get any remains.

After running the fix.reg let me know how things are running and let me know if you have any other problems.

If you are planning on posting a log from another computer please start a new topic for that computer, so we don't get mixed up :)
