So please forgive me for being so clueless as to if I have been infected…but lately the internet connection at my house has been VERY out of whack, and with 4 of us living all together connected to the web wireless (through Broadstripe) there has been quite some moments of disconnections during virus/malaware updates. Recently I has to backup and restore my Blackberry, during this…there was a "web flux" and when I looked down I saw a blue icon with a white wrench in it's center, then it disappeared! I have searched and found that it is a Uniblue product that I DID not download to my computer….so I have heard of this service and need to know if you can see any "oddness" or infections with what it scanned. Thank you dearly, and to hell with Broadstripe!

Hi sagealicious,

:welcome:

My name is Tomk. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research, so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for the issues on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please be careful when posting logs that you actually post the whole log. The HijackThis log you have posted is missing the header information.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

And below this is the new HijackThis logfile, you will see that I have added some new programs since the first scan, and before I
received your response I went to www.regsofts.com and used their Free Window Registry Repair 1.8, and after that I went to
www.secunia.com and used Secunia PSI scan which informed me of what apps I have and checked for any security patches, locates them, and applies them. I was missing Java all together, and the latest Adobe product so I downloaded what was needed.

So far everything appears to be running fine after I did what you instructed, my computer is a bit slow on closing or minimizing my browser windows, but for now all seems good. I will know more within a day or two, to really observe everything in action, but it rebooted fine, a little sluggish on the appearance of my desktop icons, and changed my task bar up a bit.
I thank you for your time in helping me with all of this and I WILL NOT download anymore programs until I hear from you.
sagealicious,

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
TomK, so I hit the link and it went through it's program and at the end it shut my computer down, the screen went black and into a shut down mode. I received a yellow triangle with a { ! } in it before it shut down, after wards when my computer rebooted there was another warning symbol that was red with a { x } in it, I clicked on it and it lead me to my Microsoft security screen, everything there was normal. My firewall was on, my security virus program was set fine, and my update is set proper. So my next question is where do we go from here? I was never able to get the report of it's scan and I am a tad leary of doing it again.
sagealicious,

Let's get a different look at what's going on.

Please download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links and save it to your desktop.
    • DDS.scr
    • DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection (How to Disable your Security Programs)
  • Double click DDS icon to run the tool (may take up to 3 minutes to run)
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • After a few moments, attach.txt will open in a second window.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————
  • Post the contents of the DDS.txt report in your next reply
  • Attach the Attach.txt report to your post by scroling down to the Attachments area and then clicking Browse. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Open and the click UPLOAD.

sagealicious,

You apparently have some ongoing errors with Ipod. You've also got a couple other nasies in there.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Disable_…ams_t96260.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

COMBOFIX-Script

  • Please open Notepad (Start -> Run -> type notepad in the Open field -> OK) and copy and paste the text present inside the code box below:

    File::

    Folder::

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{153aab41-8732-11d7-ab07-806d6172696f}]

    Driver::
  • Save this as CFScript.txt and change the "Save as type" to "All Files" and place it on your desktop.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Then, let's try Kaspersky online again please.

:yeah:
Thanks once again, off to Kaspersky online I go!
Hey Tomk,

So I did the Kaspersky online scan again, 2 1/2 hrs later it says that there is NO malware detected. So is that it? Is my computer healed?
Please let me know what's up,
Sagealicious
.
sagealicious,

Log looks good :D

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
  • Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
  • [external image: Posted Image]
The above procedure will:
  • Implement some cleanup procedures.
  • Reset System Restore.

Please re-enable any security that was disabled.
Please delete DDS.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Also: "How to prevent malware"
by miekiemoes

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
TomK,

Thank you kindly for all your help, I WILL take the time to read the suggested material prescribed to me, it has been a few years since I have been back on the web….and so ALL the new viruses, malware, and such kinda blows my mind. I remember a time when the web was a free information highway and now everyone wants your personal data and such, this service you offer here at WhattheTech has been of GREAT value.
Now before I go, what is DDS? Combofix uninstalled itself…so I am just a wee bit confused on what DDS is, other than that my system appears to be running great, and I cannot thank you enough.

May the Universe shine bright upon your path,

Sagealicious
:wavey:
sagealicious, DDS is a program that you downloaded in post #6. If it isn't on your desktop, then it was removed with ComboFix's uninstall routine. You are very welcome. Good Luck and Be Well.
