Hi Oldman960, I've found it at several different locations. This morning I checked Fox Sports NFL Draft Tracker. It appeared right away and again every 4 or 5 minutes. I have checked the YES, No and X. Nothing seems to happen. Thanks again, Mohawk
Hi Mohawk,

A lot of sites require ActiveX in order to view/run their content.

Check your settings for activex

Open Internet Explorer, click on the Tools tab, click on Internet Options, click on the Security tab,

-Make sure the zone is set to Internet
-Click the Custom Level button
-Find the section "ActiveX controls and plug-ins".

Set them as follows

-Download signed ActiveX controls – Prompt
-Download unsigned ActiveX controls – Disable
-Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe – Disable
-Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins – Enable
-Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting – Enable

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks
Hi Oldman 960, I followed your suggestions on Active X. The only change I had to make was at "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" from Prompt to Enable. Are the settings that you gave me the ones I should make sure I have in the future? The ActiveX box no longer appears. Thanks for correcting this. When I try to download Adobe Flash Player I get the message that it is unable to install. There is a message at the lower yellow box that there is an "Error on Page." Thanks, Mohawk
Hi Mohawk,

-Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins – Enable

The settings I gave you will be fine. The only difference is you won't get the prompt box to run the activex control. Having it set to Prompt gives you a bit more control over what's running. Having it set to Enable does the same as clicking Yes when prompted.

I'm out of ideas for Flash Player. Your problem with Flasher Player would probably be best addressed in the Software Forum Start a new thread there and include a link to this thread so they can see what we have done.

Your computer appears to be free of malware, so we'll clean up the tools.

From your desktop, please delete
  • Rooter.exe
  • any notpads/logs we may have created
  • Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

In windows explorer, please delete this folder
c:\Rooter$

Open OTMovetit3 then click the Clean Up button. You may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet - allow this. A cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will do some clean up tasks and delete some of the tools you have downloaded plus itself.

I suggest you keep MBAM. Keep MBAM updated and use it regularly.

* Create a new restore point

You must be logged on to an administrator account
  • Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore.
  • Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
  • In the text box labeled Restore Point Description, type a name for this restore point
  • click create

* Remove old restore points

  • Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - system tools.
  • Launch the Disk Cleanup tool and let it run.
  • When it finishes a box with tabs will appear, select the more options tab.
  • On this tab you will find a section for System Restore.
  • If you press the Clean Up button for that section, Windows will delete all restore points except for the most recent one.

Some Recommendations and prevention tips

Basic security consists of 1 antivirus program, 1 resident antispyware program, 1 on demand antispyware program and a firewall. With MBAM you're just missing the firewall.

You should also use Spyware Blaster to help immunize your computer.

- SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

* If you are behind a router Windows firewall should be fine. Otherwise a 3rd party firewall with outbound monitoring is recommended.

-Secure your Internet Explorer

From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
  • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

- Ensure that Automatic Update is turned on so you get all the latest patches.
Click start, control panel, click Security Center.

- Keep your antivirus program updated, as well as any other security programs you have.

Hi Oldman960, I haven't been able to spend much time on the computer lately. I hope to finish your recommendations some time tomorrow. I created a new restore point and removed the old restore points. You suggested deleting c:\Rooter$ It would appreciate it if you could help me work my way through that one. Thanks again, Mohawk
Hi Mohawk,

No problem. C:\Rooter$ is a folder created by one of the tools we used.

Please open Windows Explorer (right click your start button and select explore)

In the left hand panel, Click the + signs beside
  • My Computer
  • Local disk C:
scroll down the list until you get to Rooter$ ,right click on it and selectdelete.

Any more problem, let me know. :)
Oldman960, Thank you for helping me clean up my computer. You took me places I have never been before. I don't know how you did it and how you were able to figure out what to do. I'm glad you were there to help. I will try to get assistance with the Adobe Software as you suggested. Thank you again for your patience, persistance and support! Mohawk
