[Resolved] Removal of win32.Rbot.aeu Cannot find a way to remove

Yesterday while listening to some music in media player a message appeared from Spy bot Search and Destroy asking me if I wanted to make changes in my registry keys. I then denied the changes and then did a scan with Spy bot to see what was going on. I also did a scan with AVG but it didn't find anything.The scan from Spy bot came up with Win32.Rbot.aeu as the problem and also my Windows security being disabled, but I have now fixed the Windows security problem with an update from the Microsoft website.

If anyone could help me get rid of this Win32.Rbot.aeu worm I would greatly appreciate it.

My computer's behavior
-Pop up messages before logging out.
-Trouble logging out or shutting down.
-Constant notices on registry key changes
-Computer and internet seem sluggish.

DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, SmitfraudFix, MBAM, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision.

Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data.



Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.


Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Next:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

I rebooted several times just to see if any messages or errors would pop up and to see how the computer was preforming.
So far it's running pretty smoothly, one thing Malwarebytes could not remove multimediaControls.chl (trojan.zlob). There has also been a message that pops up after I log into my user. DCPFLICS service, and then it says "Error reading port from DCPFLICS.ini"

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

    Note: Combofix will run without the Recovery Console installed.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
"copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste".

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Things seem to be more up to speed. I don't think things have ran this fast since the last time I reinstalled XP on this machine. I have temporarily removed AVG because I was unable to disable its virus protection or uninstall the program itself. Not wanting to risk anything while Combofix ran, I downloaded an AVG remover from their website to remove the program. Hopefully this doesn't effect my logs I have posted. So far I have had no trouble logging out or shutting down the computer and with no bother from any messages of registry changes or messages while logging out. According to Malwarebytes' the Trojan.zlob is still there. I have read the description for that trojan and none of the symptoms ever show up while I'm working on this computer. Will this be a reoccurring thing if I visit websites that load videos, flashes, games, with active x, java, shockwave etc…?

It looks like you were infected at least in part from a Flash / Thumb drive. We'll get to that.


Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org, click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

Yes that seems to be a pretty wide spread epidemic at my college. The worm/virus as traveled through the network and has infected probably almost all the computers there. At least 10 people in my class today noticed that they were unable to open up their flash drives to view their work or files and were also infected. As of today I began my work using a mac and have reformatted my flash drive.

The computer that I'm using now is the one that I've been cleaning with your help, my personal computer. I was just saying that I thought maybe thats how my personal computer got partly infected by something that was passed on from a school computer onto my flash drive then onto this computer. Sorry for me to ramble on with the last post and not being all that clear.

Save this file to your desktop, Save this as "CFScript"

Here's how to do that:
1.Click File;
2.Click Save As… Change the directory to your desktop;
3.Change the Save as type to "All Files";

I was finally able to download that USB flash disinfector and it seems to have worked. I also formated my flash drive just in case. It kept popping up as a folder instead of an actual drive when I would go into my computer and there were also these files inside the "my documents" folder on the flash drive called oobox which then had a file inside of that called restore. Can you recommend me anything to install on my flash drive that will keep it safe for when I go to school? By the way thanks for all of your help, I really appreciate it. :thumbup:
