Hi almar, welcome to the forum.

Here you go.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
  • Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi almar,

I see a few problems. Besides an infection you have 3 or parts of 3 antivirus programs installed. This does not mean more protection, probably means less due to conflicts between them. Please decide which one you want to keep and uninstall the other 2.

The 3 I see are
  • AOL Antivirus
  • McAfee
  • Symantec (Norton)

Next

We need some file informantion
  • Make sure to use Internet Explorer for this
  • Please go to VirSCAN.org FREE on-line scan service
  • Copy and paste the following file paths, one at a time into the "Suspicious files to scan" box on the top of the page:
  • Please ensure the scan is complete and you have saved the results before submitting the next one

    C:\WINDOWS\ekacanuv.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\Ssukijohapu.dll

  • Click on the Upload button
  • If a pop-up appears saying the file has been scanned already, please select the ReScan button.
  • Once the Scan is completed, click on the "Copy to Clipboard" button. This will copy the link of the report into the Clipboard.
  • Paste the contents of the Clipboard in your next reply.

Next

Open hijackthis, do a system scan only and checkmark these lines, if present

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pfujav] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\ekacanuv.dll",e
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Yfatopepacupodov] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\Ssukijohapu.dll",e
O23 - Service: Security Center (wscsvc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe (file missing)

Close ALL other windows/browsers and click Fix Checked. Answer Yes if prompted. Close HJT.

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

Do Not copy the word CODE note the fix starts with the :
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services

    :Reg

    :Files
    C:\WINDOWS\ekacanuv.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\Ssukijohapu.dll

    :Commands
    [Purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

*Make sure you allow OTMOVEIT3 to reboot your computer when prompted. You should end up in normal windows. This is where we want to be if possible.

After your computer has rebooted please obtain a new HJT (hijackthis) log.

Please post back with
  • Virus Scan log
  • OTMOVEIT3 log
  • new HJT log
How is your computer at the moment? We still have a ways to go.

Thanks
Hi oldman Thanks for yr instructions. The only problem is that I am not able to open up Internet Explorer ever since this freezing up problem arose. It just wouldn't load. I can only use Mozilla Firefox as a browser and in Safe Mode only .There must be some reason to this ,unknown to me ! so does that mean i would not be able to use Firefox to download Virscan.org ?? Many thanks for yr help.
Hi almar,

You aren't downloading Virus Scan, you are going to submit those files for analysis.

You can use FireFox but you will need to type the filename into the "Suspicious files to scan" box. You will also need to copy and save the address to the page after the scan is complete.

C:\WINDOWS\ekacanuv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Ssukijohapu.dll
Hi Oldman

this is the copy of the two files scan by Virscan. They seem to be infected. Please help

Hi Almar,

Look here for the OTMOVEIT3 log C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles It will be a file with a series of numbers in it's name.

Download ERUNT from Here

  • Double click erunt-setup.exe to install the program
  • Follow the prompts, and then uncheck Create NTREGOPT desktop icon at the Additional Tasks screen.
  • Click No when you are prompted about creating an ERUNT entry in the startup folder.
  • At the next screen, uncheck Show documentation and check Launch ERUNT
  • If ERUNT doesn't start by itself, launch it from the desktop shortcut.
  • At the configuration screen, make sure all 3 checkboxes are checked
  • Click Ok to run the backup process
  • When prompted, click YES to create a new folder.
  • Progress bars will show backup status.
  • A confirmation window will popup when complete. Click OK to close

Since you are in safe mode, don't worry about your security programs for this next tool, they won't be running.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Please post the combofix log, OTMOVEIT3 log and a new HJT log. Can you get to normal windows now?

Thanks
Hi Almar,

Did you get ERUNT installed? Also did you find the OTMOVEIT3 log?

Let's see if we can get a look at your system.

Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Please attach the second file; Attach.txt. To attach a file, do the following:
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to insert the attachment into your post

Please download RootRepeal to your desktop
  • Physically disconnect your machine from the internet as your system will be unprotected.
  • Unzip it to it's own folder, close all other programs especially your security programs (anti-spyware, anti-virus, and firewall) and run RootRepeal.exe
  • Click the Report tab at the bottom and then the Scan button.
  • A box will pop up, check the boxes beside Drivers, Files, Processes SSDT and click OK.
  • Another box will open, check the boxes beside all the drives, eg : C:\, then click OK.
  • The scan will take a little while to run, so let it go unhindered.
  • Once it is done, click the Save Report button, call it RepealScan and save the log to your desktop.
  • Reconnect to the internet.
  • Post the log here in your reply.

Please post back with both DDS logs and the RootRepeal log.

Thanks
Hi Oldman As I mentioned to you ; ComboFix.exe wouldn't open, (windows need to know which program created it). Erunt was installed and ran but did not give any log. there is a file called OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer - Version 1.0.10.0 log created on 04012009_184933 on my computer, again that's about it. No log report. When clicking on DDS nothing is downloaded, just a blank page.
