Hello,

I'm new to this site, and found it via the HijackThis site.

I'm having issues with my new computer where it appears as though my google links on firefox has been hijacked. When I do a search and click on the desired link, there is a delay before I get redirected to a few unrelated sites. These sites seem to cycle through the following:
- search14.info.com
- smartbizsearch.com
- ripetv.com
- www.toseeka.com

There are also many, many others.

I've also been having issues installing malware removal software, where it takes me to the blue screen of death. And also it appears so though someone has edited my windows automatic update, as well as turned my firewall off (It must have been malware, because i would not turn them off myself).

I'm currently running Windows Vista - Home Edition (32-Bit).

I have included a HiJackThis log below. Any help would be appreciated.

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe)
2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator")

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Right-click ATF-Cleaner.exe and select "Run as administrator" to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Right-click mbam-setup.exe, select "Run as administrator" and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.
Thanks for the quick response.

I did the APT clean, and it went smoothly.

However, I am having issues running Malwarebyte. I have installed it successfully (I believe) but it will not run. When I double click on it, nothing happens. So I tried running it as an admin, and a windows error comes up as "stopped working". I also tried running in safe mode to see if I can get the Malwarebyte to work, but some result.

I have never the less included a new HiJackThis log, but I suspect that there will be no change from previous.

Can Malmare / Spyware prevent programs from running? Just as a side note, I have recently removed McAfee that was pre-installed on my computer because I was having issues getting updates for it. But when I tried to reinstall it, errors came up. This was true of other Malware detection SW that I've tried to install including ENOD and SuperAntiSpy. Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks… the ".com" addition worked… I'm running the scan now… However, my computer won't let me get an update. I says my firewall was blocking it, but I have turned off my windows defender firewall and it still won't update. Again, i'm experiencing update issues the past couple weeks with windows, and McAfee (preinstall). I suspect that it's malware / spyware that is preventing the update? I will post log of my scan when it's complete. Thanks again for you time, and continued efforts.

For now don't worry about the update. It should remove the Wareout infection, which is indicated by these:

As per request of MalwareByte, I restarted my computer and re-ran HiJackThis. Here is the latest log.

I'm still experiencing the Firefox hijacking of my search links… I'm still being directed to other relevant sites… I'm still having update issues for windows and malwarebyte.
1. These tools MUST be run from the executable. (.exe)
2. With Admin Rights (Right click, choose "Run as Administrator") every time you run them

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

Note: Combofix will run without the Recovery Console installed.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
"copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste".

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I ran combofix, and it seem to have fixed everything… I can now update (I believe, as malwarebyte update works) and my firefox searches are no longer being hijacked.

Thanks again for all your help.

I have attached the log.
