HI- I was redirected here by a security expert from spybot's search and destroy forums. He was unable to help me after him giving me many scann options/registry scans/& in the end he gave a final resort of telling me to go into run type sfc /scannow – and even that finished dat 64% verification then told me Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation. He said there is no malware that can be causing my problem but I Still DO have this virus/file RDPWD.SYS when I ran AVG AntiVirus. ALSO my computer is crashing-it started with blue screens-Kernel Dumps-sometimes saying the ntfs.sys file on the blue screen. I would LOOVE any sort of help..I know the guy never ran me through that COMBOFIX program. HERES HIJACK LOG! HOPE YOU CAN HELP!

Hi and :welcome:

RDPWD.SYS is not related to any Malware

It relates to Remote Desktop Services

Microsoft discovered a vulnerability in this service and has offered a patch for it.

Information can be obtained about this >>HERE<<

I do not see any active Malware in your log.

But to be certain, please do the following:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <– very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

i downloaded the ms patch and does it matter that im not running windows xp…im running VISTA? Also I dont know how to apply the patch…there aren't any instructions…certain folder I should put these files in? generic_send_tcp; ld.sh; libdlrpc.so; remoteass.spk
Don't apply the patch…This was to supply you information about the vulnerability…the patch is not for Vista… sorry…I'll see if I can find out more information for Vista machines… it was just to let you know it's not any kind of root kit or virus…just continue on with the MBAM and Kasparsky scans….
HAHA dayam will do. I was really hoping that was the fix because all the info. that they gave just at least sounds like the problems I am experiencing… I was starting to hope rdpwd.sys was the only malfunction. But both scans are running will post back–like I said rdpwd.sys was only found when I ran an AVG Scan..not sure if it will show up under malware's or kaperskys-Also I hope kapersky scan will work b/c that along with many other scans just would not finish/malfunction when SPYBOT's admins. directed me towards such. It was usually an error in the middle of a scan…but I'll let you know. THX for the help
STILL! no sign of the rdpwd.sys–it only pops up as a hidden driver & it says rootkit under AVG's antivirus scan. the Kepseylar test also showed no infections at all……I cant explain it especially if my computer is showing all the signs–shutting off periodically (i think overheat on that part) reboots into the blue screen calling for a Kernal_input_data_error or something….and Also the most notably is the slowness of the computer….its making me on edge on whether or not to reinstall the OS…I REALLY DONT WANT TO..too many important school files currently being used….please help! such hidden viruses, and no one to detect them! Hi,

I'm not believing this is related to virus or Malware, it may be a hardware or Vista problem, but lets do one more scan with a rootkit finder.

If there is one - this will find it.

Please download the GMER Rootkit Scanner. Unzip it to your Desktop.
Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
Double-click gmer.exe. The program will begin to run.
**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<— ROOKIT" entries unless advised!
If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a number of boxes that have been checked … leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.

  • Post the contents of GMER.txt in your next reply.

Hi,

good news,

There is no malware on your machine

bad news

you are still having issues.

It appears your problems are unrelated to any malware.

You may need to update your drivers.

Did you check in your device manager -are there any errors showing?

I suggest you post a new thread in our Windows forum and allow one of our tech gurus assist you. They are extremely excellent and far more knowledgeable than I in these matters. If anyone can sort this out for you - they can.

Link back to this topic so they can see you are clean of any malware…

Good Luck

I am going to include my usual ending recommendations, read through the tips and hopefully they will assist you in keeping your computer clean once all your issues are resolved.

  • Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
  • SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX, it immunizes your PC against them.
  • SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program ( eg : TeaTimer, Windows Defender ) or there will be a conflict.
  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    • Click on the Security tab
    • Click Reset all zones to default level
    • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
    • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
    • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • ATF Cleaner - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more.  Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
  • For Firefox, I highly recommend these add-ons to keep your PC even more secure.
    • NoScript - for blocking ads and other potential website attacks
    • McAfee SiteAdvisor - this tells you whether the sites you are about to visit are safe or not. A must if you do a lot of Googling
  • Keep a backup of your important files - Now, more than ever, it's especially important to protect your digital files and memories.  This article is full of good information on alternatives for home backup solutions.
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed.
  • Recovery Console - Recent trends appear to indicate that future infections will include attacks to the boot sector of the computer. The installation of the Recovery Console in the computer will be our only defense against this threat. For more information and steps to install the Recovery Console see This Article. Should you need assistance in installing the Recovery Console, please do not hesitate to ask.
  • Please read the guide by Rorschach112on how to prevent malware and about safe computing here
Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance. If you're the topic starter, and need this topic reopened, please contact a staff member with the address of the thread. Everyone else please begin a New Topic.
