Hi, this is my first visit and I have to tell you that I am NOT very computer savy at all so I appreciate your patience.

My computer has alot of memory left on it but recently I began to receive a bunch of popups that I never got before and my computer response time is very slow.
I have Comcast High Speed Internet service with their McAffe protection so I'm not sure what may have happened.

I downloaded the HiJackThis and ran a log. I am hoping it is the right log…any assistance you could provide would be great and I am praying it is something simple with easy directions :D as I am not ver computer savy at all. Please let me know if you need anything additional. I also did the "analyze this" and I think this is that info too…

Hi kellyrachael and :welcome:

I have tried to make the instructions as clear as possible, but if there is anything at all that you do not understand please DO NOT proceed, please post back here and ask

I have LOTS of time and LOTS of patience, so don't worry.

The only stupid question is the one that you don't ask.

The important thing is to get your computer clean (It has a lot of infections) but we can work through it together and hopefully things will work out successfully.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest backing up your registry with ERUNT before we begin.

Download ERUNT to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Link/Target As…, select your Desktop and press Save)
Right-click erunt.zip, choose Extract All… and follow the prompts to unzip the program.
Open the erunt folder on your Desktop and double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program
Click OK for all the prompts to back up your registry to the default location.

Next:

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

[external image: Posted Image]

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

  • Notes:
  • Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  • Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  • ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
  • Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please advise.
  • CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now
I got to here but don't see this when I open the folder: Open the erunt folder on your Desktop and double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program I don't have ERUNT.exe in the folder. I have: AUTOBACK ERDNTDOS.LOC ERUNT LIESMICH NTREGOPT README ERDNT.E_E ERDNTWJN.LOC ERUNT.LOC LOC_GER NTREGOPT.LOC Did I do something wrong?
probably not if you followed the directions as instructed

open the erunt folder - go to View on the top bar > choose TILES…that should change all the files to little icons..

then look for the one that looks like this [external image: Posted Image] it will have the word ERUNT.EXE beside the picture.

that's the one you want to run…let me know how you get on.
The picture didn't come through…and there isn't an Icon that has EXE, there is one that has E_E but that is as close as it gets. Should I do the download of erunt again?
yes delete that folder and zipped file…down load erunt again to your desktop

make sure you RIGHT CLICK on the downloaded zip file.

A MENU will open..(on my computer it's the fourth one down on the list) - it says 'EXTRACT ALL' <- CLICK ON EXTRACT ALL.

The files will extract to the default location which should be your desktop…press OK. Once you have the new folder on your desk top,

double click
on the folder to open it…on the very top row you will see the options

FILE EDIT VIEW FAVOURITES TOOLS and HELP…

click once on VIEW - a 'drop down' menu appears…there is a choice there called TILES (5th one down) click tiles - a round bullet will show up next to it…now you should see a number of picture icons in the folder

there are two that look like the picture I showed you in the last post….

choose the one that has ERUNT.EXE beside it…

don't worry…you're doing great and I'll stick with you every step of the way…

I'll describe things as best I can…let me know if there is anything I'm saying that you don't understand OK
I removed erunt from my desktop and downloaded again. I can't see the picture in your last post, it is just a red x on the screen…can you send the picture in an email so I can see it? For some reason, my computer is not allowing your picture to come through. There is not one that says ERUNT.EXE I have one that just says ERUNT and it has a picture of ERU in Red letters with a black NT sort of under it. There is also another folder that looks like a zip folder in there called LOC_GER. I'm sure I downloaded it right. I tried to paste the folders into this note but it wouldn't work. What is our next option?
The one you want to execute is the one that says just ERUNT - you have your file extensions hidden, but I didn't want to confuse you by giving a big explanation about file extensions

I was just hoping to get you to a screen that had the icons…..well lets move on.

choose ERUNT and see if that works

If it doesn't work it may be because of the infection on your machine……it does have a way of messing things up….

Move on to the Combo Fix instructions regardless of what happens with erunt…lets see if we can get some of this junk off your machine so we can get it stabalized….

If you can't get combo fix to run…let me know….
Hi, I believe it has finished running te combo fix….is it safe to log onto the internet on that computer and send that log to you now? (I am on my laptop at this moment) I just want to be sure that if it says: log - Notepad and has the combo fix stuff in it, that it is ok now to log back onto the internet. I know, I'm a dork…but I am seriously scared of messing anything up :) By the way, you have been very patient with me and I appreciate all your help.
Ok, took the chance…opened Internet and here is the Log: Again, thank you for your help….it is getting late so I will look for your response tomorrow after I get home from work. Just for giggles, I logged onto a couple of internet sites that I usually use and during those brief visits, I didn't experience any popups for "virus protection" programs like I was getting. Not sure if it is because I just went to a couple of sites or if something has changed and maybe those nasty popups have gone away, oh well, a girl can wish anyway :) Thanks for your help…let me know what the next steps are and I'll check back tomorrow evening.

Hi,

That got most of the bad stuff,

lets do this:

Again - If there is anything you have difficulty with or don't understand, please just ask.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
    • If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

NEXT

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <– very important
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button. Then post it here.

]I am now doing this: Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. I will send scan report when it finishes, it is very slow, only at 23% right now. You asked:
By the way, did you ever get ERUNT to install?? Yes, I did.
It may have been the Malware preventing it? Must have been, it finally worked.

I will post the scan report from the Kaspersky scan when it finishes. Thank you so much for your help, you have done a great job of walking me through this.
If it doesn't finish before about 11:00PM EST, then I will send first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks again!
hey…I left the room for 5 minutes, came back and the Kaspersky window and internet had shutdown and it disappeared..what could have happened? Is there anyway to find out if it finished?
Unfortunately no,

once it's gone, it's gone.

I want you to try another tool rather than try Kaspersky again….

Please click here to download AVP Tool by Kaspersky.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter
    .

  • Double click the setup file to run it.
  • Click Next to continue.
  • It will by default install it to your desktop folder. Click Next.
  • Hit OK at the prompt for scanning in Safe Mode.
  • It will then open a box. There will be a tab that says Automatic scan.
  • Under Automatic scan make sure these are checked.

  • System Memory
  • Startup Objects
  • Disk Boot Sectors.
  • My Computer.
  • Also any other drives (Removable that you may have)

  • Then click on Scan at the top right hand Corner.
  • It will automatically Neutralize any objects found.
  • If some objects are left unneutralized then click the button that says Neutralize all
  • If it says it cannot be Neutralized then choose the delete option when prompted.
  • After that is done click on the reports button at the bottom and save it to file, name it Kas.
  • Save it to your desktop and just post only the detected Virus\malware in the report it will be at the very top under Detected post those results in your next reply.

Note: This tool will self uninstall when you close it so please save the log before closing it.
