Since a couple of month my computer is performing VERY strange. He is not only slowing down more and more, he also produces reoccuring files on USB-sticks. In my Resident-Shield-Vault by now I am holding:

Tracking Cookies: : lvwbox.txt
Doubleclick.txt
2o7.txt
Worm/Generic.OUK : E.\Recycled.exe
E:\iiiiii.exe
Worm/Autoit.MCC : E:\rpvyaq.exe
Worm/Dowmadup : C:\WINDOWS\system32\sgepyhek.dll
WIN32/Heur : E:\mhre.pif

In addition I have a tremendous list of processes running. Not that I am an expert whatsoever, but part of that list does nor make any sense to me. I have been tracing dumprep.exe and registry-editor and autorun.inf, but as I am not at all good in computer skills, it did not lead anywhwere, exept more confusion.

Two more things: I can NOT enable to view hidden files, and on my Winamp the visualisations got hopelessly lost.

PLEASE GUIDE ME THROUGH! I'm not a techy, so please in plain language. THANX :smack:

Hello and :welcome:

Please follow these instructions carefully, if you have any difficulty, please post back and ask:

First

Download ERUNT to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Link/Target As…, select your Desktop and press Save)
Right-click erunt.zip, choose Extract All… and follow the prompts to unzip the program.
Open the erunt folder on your Desktop and double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program
Click OK for all the prompts to back up your registry to the default location.

Next:

Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from HERE and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.

Note:Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder…it will help protect your drives from future infection.

Next

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
    • If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit icon to start the program.
  • press start
  • Allow the program to run the initial express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory. If something is found, click the YES button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
Note: A pop up may appear during this phase suggesting you purchase their program - click the X at the top right corner of this pop-up to close it.
  • Once the short scan has finished, check the Complete scan box on the left side, even if nothing was found on the initial scan.
  • Then click the small green arrow button on the right under the Dr.Web Antivirus picture to start the complete scan. (This scan will take several hours)
  • During this complete scan - if Dr.Web finds an infection a window will pop up requesting your attention. Select the Cure button.
    • Note:(If the file cannot be cured, Dr.Web will automatically delete the file)
  • Once the scan is complete, on the menu bar, click file and choose report list.
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Note:this report will need to be renamed to Dr.Web.txt in order to post it on the forum.
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Please post the Dr.Web.txt report in your next reply
Thanx for the help. I did the ERUNT, the Flash Disinfector and the ATF-Cleaner. Only with Dr Web I have my problems. My machine doen't want to save it:

' C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Ralph\Desktop\drweb-cureit.exe.part konnte nicht gespeichert werden, weil die Quelldatei nicht gelesen werden konnte.
Versuchen Sie es später nochmals oder kontaktieren Sie den Server-Administrator.'

As you can see, I am running a german operation system.

I will have to go out for some work, so I will be back only in the evening. Here in India (that's where I am) it's 10 in the morning.

Talk to you later PLEASE

Raphael
There is a tab at the top - save report list.…

if you go to the tab, you should have the option of saving the report…

let me know what options you are given…

do you remember anything of the results if you cannot find a report
I tried again to download Dr.Web, but after about 2.1MB it stops and tells me that the 'quelldatei (source file)' can not be read. Any idea? Do I need something else to 'read' Dr.Web?
Hi,

Try this instead

Please click here to download AVP Tool by Kaspersky.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter
    .

  • Double click the setup file to run it.
  • Click Next to continue.
  • It will by default install it to your desktop folder. Click Next.
  • Hit OK at the prompt for scanning in Safe Mode.
  • It will then open a box. There will be a tab that says Automatic scan.
  • Under Automatic scan make sure these are checked.

  • System Memory
  • Startup Objects
  • Disk Boot Sectors.
  • My Computer.
  • Also any other drives (Removable that you may have)

  • Then click on Scan at the top right hand Corner.
  • It will automatically Neutralize any objects found.
  • If some objects are left unneutralized then click the button that says Neutralize all
  • If it says it cannot be Neutralized then choose the delete option when prompted.
  • After that is done click on the reports button at the bottom and save it to file, name it Kas.
  • Save it to your desktop and just post only the detected Virus\malware in the report it will be at the very top under Detected post those results in your next reply.

Note: This tool will self uninstall when you close it so please save the log before closing it.

Well, I reached there, but then 'he' told me that my copy of Kaspersky is corrupted. Yes it stopped at 23MB, but has 36MB. My download speed is REDICULOUS slow! I am downloading anew, but it will take MORE THAN 1 HOUR. So don't expect me back before … ? Thanx for your help … and your patience !
Keep trying …I have lots of time and patience…plus we have other tools for you to try if that fails too… if you are infected with WIN32/Heur as you have described - that is one nasty infection and will be interfering in all our efforts to clean you up… expect these scans to take hours….
Okay, here we go:

The scan took about 9 hours. I did connect as well my external drive which holds a 'True Image' of my C-drive from beginning of January, plus 2 files which are anyhow part of both drives. One of these 2 files holds photos downloaded from the net, a 'certain kind' of photos. :smack: Although I had a powercut of about an hour inbetween (yes, in india you have powercuts, even without cyclones and floods), no complains from the Kaspersky (only the external got shut down, my lap run on battery).

In the first place I was disappointed, because:

Okay, I did shut down the machine, and started it anew. Immediatly I got a RESIDENT SHIELD ALLERT:

Multiple Thread Detection
C:\ … \Desktop\Virus Removal Tool\is-63C4V\is-63C4V.exe (2 numbers of it !!!)
Trojan Horse Pakes, CFZ

C:\ … \Desktop\Virus Removal Tool\\is-63C4V.startup.exe
Process ID 536
Detected on open

The only thing that came to my mind was to press the 'Remove Infection' button. But there came a prompt:

Some files can not be healed.
Specified file was not found.

So I closed the alert promt, shut down the computer, reconnected the external, and started it again, This time I got no allert !?! WHY ?

Note: VIRUS REMOVAL TOOL is the second file that installed itself along with setup.(KASPERSKY).exe on my desktop. By the way: when I closed kaspersky the last prompt was: do you really want to remove all (kas) files from your computer? And I said NO. So it still sits on my desktop!

Note: last October I caught a trojan (opening an indian page of a 'certain kind') which supposingly got removed from our local expert.

Here we are. What next?

:wall:
Hi,

Given your circumstances, it's hard to tell whether it scanned properly or not.

Don't worry about cleaning up the tools for now, I have a tool cleaner for that purpose when we're finished.
Have all your drives plugged in for this scan as well.

Please do the following

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so.

NEXT
Open HJT click on Do a system scan and save a logfile button
once the scan has completed a notepad should open - copy/paste that log here.

In your next response I need

  • MBAM log
  • Fresh HJT log
also advise of any other issues you may be having with your machine
Hi CatByte (I think I rather need a HorseByte  )

The MBAM Story:

I run it over my C-drive and got this result:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.34 (newest version from 11.02.2009)
Database version: 1749
Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3

Folders Infected:
(No malicious items detected)

Files Infected:
(No malicious items detected)

Note: Supposingly both of them are 'Quarantined and deleted successfully.', but in the vault is only the Trojan Agent !

Because I forgot to switch on my external drive I run a separate scan over it. WHY does the 'true Image' on my external only takes little more than 1 Minute, and my C-drive more than 5 minutes. I thought it's a TRUE IMAGE of my C-drive. I don't get that. Anyhow, there was no infection on my external by running the 'Quick Scan'.

Out of curiosity I then run a full scan over my external. And there was something, but coming from the RESIDENT SHIELD from AVG (network edition). The MBAM log doesn't show anything:

"Infection";"Trojan horse Pakes.CFZ";"C:\System Volume Information\_restore{54327432-844D-4D3E-BAD6-7648DD0497E1}\RP12\A0004903.exe";"";"24.03.2009, 23:31:56"

So, in my avg-Vault by now I have the 2 Trojan Horse Files, this one and that one: '"Infection";"Trojan horse Pakes.CFZ";"C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Ralph\Desktop\Virus Removal Tool\is-63C4V\is-63C4V.exe";"";"24.03.2009, 19:31:16"

A full scan I did after with my c-drive yielded nothing.

And here is the new HJT log:

Any other issues? Well, I got that 'WIN32/Heur : E:\mhre.pif' -thing, the machine is taking too much time for opening even simple files, my winamp visualisations got hopelessly lost, probably the CPU is running high on allmost 100%, little nasty bits generate themselves on USB's …

… and sometimes I dream of times BEFORE all that got invented. I mean times when I played with little toy-cars instead with Trojan Horses
Hi,

Did you run the flash disinfector program on all your external drives including your E drive.

I'm not seeing any signs of anything left on your main machine, there's no sign of 'WIN32/Heur : E:\mhre.pif' infecting your C: drive, which is a good thing. It looks like it was on the E drive, so as long as that has been disinfected (was it a USB stick..if so - reformat it)

Your logs look clean

The best advise I can give you for the future is to stop downloading 'certain types' of pictures - buy a magazine - that's how you're getting infected all the time!!!! ;)

Your AV's are picking up infections that are in quarantine or old restore points, which we will now flush and shouldn't be a problem.

Please do the following:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
    • If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next:

Download ToolsCleaner2 to your desktop and run it ( by de A.Rothstein & Dj Quiou )
  • Click the Pt. Restauration button and press OK to the prompts.
  • Click the Corbeille button and press OK to the prompt.
  • Click the Fichiers temp button and press OK to the prompt.
  • Click the Recherche button and let it run ( it may look like it freezes but let it continue )
  • Once it is done click the Suppression button and let it remove anything it finds.
  • Close the program

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points
We need to set a new system restore point:

Click Start > Run > copy and paste the following into the run box:

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next.
Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create,
when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.
Now remove all previous Restore Points:
Click Start > Run > copy and paste the following into the run box:

cleanmgr

At the top, click on More Options tab. Click the Clean up button in the System Restore box.
Click on the Yes button.
When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.
  • Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
    http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
  • SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX, it immunizes your PC against them.
  • SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program ( eg : TeaTimer, Windows Defender ) or there will be a conflict.
  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    • Click on the Security tab
    • Click Reset all zones to default level
    • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
    • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
    • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • ATF Cleaner - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more.  Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
  • MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.
  • For Firefox, I highly recommend these add-ons to keep your PC even more secure.
    • NoScript - for blocking ads and other potential website attacks
    • McAfee SiteAdvisor - this tells you whether the sites you are about to visit are safe or not. A must if you do a lot of Googling
  • Keep a backup of your important files - Now, more than ever, it's especially important to protect your digital files and memories.  This article is full of good information on alternatives for home backup solutions.
  • ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed. The standard registry backup options that come with Windows back up most of the registry but not all of it. ERUNT however creates a complete backup set, including the Security hive and user related sections. ERUNT is easy to use and since it creates a full backup, there are no options or choices other than to select the location of the backup files. The backup set includes a small executable that will launch the registry restore if needed.
  • Recovery Console - Recent trends appear to indicate that future infections will include attacks to the boot sector of the computer. The installation of the Recovery Console in the computer will be our only defense against this threat. For more information and steps to install the Recovery Console see This Article. Should you need assistance in installing the Recovery Console, please do not hesitate to ask.
  • Please read the guide by Rorschach112on how to prevent malware and about safe computing here
Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.

Let me know how you get on after all of this - hopefully you won't get any more detections…

good luck
