Drag A$$ after format

Have a Dell XP mabye 5 yrs old it was so slow, so i pulled everything off of it that i wanted and Formated the sucker. now hardly anything is on it, i am online though. it takes at least 2 min to minimize the window (I clocked it) talked to the IT guy at work he said proccesor is mabye getting bad. Is this a lost cause cause i dont have the cash to get a new one right now I am at a lose someone pls help. Thanks

Did you use the original Dell Restore CD? Did you reload the original Dell drivers?

Did you get all "Express" Windows Updates? What is the exact Dell model?

installing WXP service pack 2 now. i think 2400

SP2 is definitely essential.

Great i will try these now SP2 is inspecting configuaration so…. I have a laptop also ill look at sight thanks how will we talk again?

Also just to add: After SP2 you may need to reload some drivers especially your graphics card. Most graphics drivers depend on SP2. Do you know the manufacturer of your graphics card or are you using the on-board graphics?

on-board as fr as i know. the IT gut at work had to get my videocard installed for me but i dont think is is right yet. Pic not as good as preformat.

If he installed a card you will need the drivers for that card. It will either be ATI or NVIDIA. One way to tell: is your monitor plug plugged in vertically near the top edge under the power supply or is it towards the bottom center in a horizontal position? The former would be your motherboard; the latter a graphics card. Either way after SP2 you will need to install the drivers. I am subscribed to this thread so I will know when you reply. it is OEM middle vertical same as always was thanks for your help. nothing yet has happened to sp2 still inspecting how long under normal conditions should this take?

It is a large piece of software. For total download and install I'd say perhaps an hour.

still downloading sp2. I ran it all that night and the next day. i then shut it off and restarted today if i scroll over the icon by the clock it says "downloading updates 5%" but i cannot see what it is doing double click, right click task manager CPU usage showes 93-100% all the time. a few things running in proccess but not any high #s
