Hey Tomk I do not have an unistall feature for the CA Security Suite. I had some trouble with it about 6 months ago and contacted their support. Not very helpful. Is there a way to completely remove all CA files including firewall. The trouble was when they updated their version of security it did not completely overwrite the old software and I had two different types of protection. I did not tell you this but my firewall is protecting the computer but I cannot access it. This is not a recent problem it has been going on for awhile. I think I can reinstall from their website. Here is the OT log. Thanks again for your time. ========== PROCESSES ========== Process explorer.exe killed successfully. ========== SERVICES/DRIVERS ========== ========== REGISTRY ========== ========== FILES ========== c:\program files\Common moved successfully. ========== COMMANDS ========== File delete failed. Mark01,

You don't want to uninstall and then you to their website. Going on the internet unprotected is a bad idea. If you can download the installable, and then disconnect from the internet, remove the existing program, install the new program, then connect back to the internet, everything should be fine.

You should be able to remove all components by going to Add or Remove Programs in your control panel. The items you want to uninstall are:
CA Anti-Spam
CA Anti-Spyware
CA Anti-Virus
CA Internet Security Suite
CA Personal Firewall

If you can't download the suite before removing the rest, please let me know and I'll give you some links to free firewalls and Anti-virus programs.
Ok Tomk I have saved the security suite to the desktop. If I create a restore point before I a remove old products and if the new download does not work can I restore to the current situation? Oh by the way the common folder does not pop after restart anymore. Thanks Mark
ok

I unistalled all CA products successfully except CA Firewall. Also was able to reinstall Antivirus and Spyware, and is working fine. Able to update also. The Firewall encountered an error and would not uninstall. Also when I rebooted it said windows installer was trying to install something??? Is there a way to uninstall the firewall somewhere else?

Here is a new HJT log.

Mark01,

Probably. But we have pretty much reached the limit of my knowledge. At this point, I suggest that you question the Tech Team here and the will be able to serve you better. Please include a link back to this topic when you post there. This will allow them to see what you have done and have access to your logs.

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Remove all previous Restore Points
Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

cleanmgr

At top, click on More Options tab. Click Clean up… button in the System Restore box. Click on Yes button. When finished, click on Cancel button to exit.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Cleanup

  • Double click on OTMoveIt3.exe to run it.
  • Click on CleanUp!
  • When done, you will be prompted to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.

Please delete DDS from your desktop.

The following is my standard advice for the future. Use what you can and pat yourself on the back for what you're already doing.

Please take time to read Preventing Malware - Tools and Practices for Safe Computing. Very important information for your consideration is contained therein.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein

Also: "How to prevent malware"
by miekiemoes

Please respond back that you understand the above and let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, this thread will be closed Resolved.
Thanks so much for all your help. Will try to solve my firewall problem in another forum. Could you give me the names of some good virus and firewall protectors just in case? Thanks again Mark
Mark01,

If you read Tools and Practices for Safe Computing that I gave you a link to, you will find download links for free Anti-virus programs (all considered very good) and free firewalls (also all considered very good) along with links to good, free anti-virus programs.
Since this issue appears to be resolved … this Topic has been closed. Glad we could be of assistance. If you're the topic starter, and need this topic reopened, please contact a staff member with the address of the thread. Everyone else please begin a New Topic.
