Say for example i want to auto populate a username, i can use ''%username%'' without quotes, but say i want to autopopulate a directory, how can i do it? Picture this, i've got a folder, lets call it folder 1, and inside that folder is another folder, which contains a text document., lets call that folder 2. Now if i go up a step, and go back to the first folder i created, i can now see folder 2. I make a shortcut to open the text file and it works on my machine, but when i send to my friends machine, i cannot choose where he decides to save the file, so when he tries to click the shortcut, it comes up with an error message, because the shortcut is looking for the wrong directory. So if that makes sense, is it possible to autopopulate that field somehow? thanks, 'Bob
Hi Bob, :wavey: Why wouldn't you simply attach the text file to an email and send it that way to your friend. Keep it simple I say. kind regards,

Hi Tallin,

I know i could email the file, swap it on a memory stick, do it over the network etc. But i'd just help if there was a way i could autopopulate a directory, the example i gave was just an example, although not a good one i admit !!

thanks again,

'Bob
See if this works.

If you are in Folder 1 and Folder 2 is a sub folder of Folder 1 and the txt file you want to open is in Folder 2, create a batch file in Folder 1, something like this:

Rem Open txt file in Folder 2
".\Folder 2\xyz.txt"

The double quotes would be needed since the directory (folder) name contains a space. The leading . means "this directory".

If you wanted to specify using notepad to open the txt file then it would look like this:

Rem Open txt file in Folder 2 wiht notepad
notepad ".\Folder 2\xyz.txt"

See if this works.
