[Closed] Possible vundo again

I am running MS windows XP.

I have been having trouble with my browser when I google something and open it in a new tab, it takes me to a random page with ads or something random, even after I updated mozilla to the most recent update. When it's really annoying, I can delete all my cookies and it fixes it for an hour or two.

I have also been having trouble with some of my flash drives, they aren't working, so I try to format them and that still doesn't work. That may be because they are crappy flash drives that I got for free. Maybe some other reason.

I have included quite a few reports and thank you for taking the time to look at these. I tried to include as much info as you might need. If you need anything else, by all means, let me know.



My McAfee antivirus recently told me it deleted a Vundo (earlier today), but that is usually a temporary fix until the vundo manifests itself again somehow.

Right before I posted this I got a note from my firewall saying the following was trying to access the internet (I wasn't running an app that should have needed access):
Object: re-6u12-windows-586-p-iftw.exe
Action: Blocked
Location: C./Documents…2-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe
And I chose to continue to block it.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Okay, sorry for waiting so long to get back to you. I went ahead and got rid of utorrent. I had a feeling that's where the problem was originating from.

Still having problems with my firefox browser getting hijacked when I click on search links. The problem is getting worse with me having to delete all my cookies every 10-15 minutes. Other than that, things seem to be going okay.

your logs appear to be clean… can you give me a detailed description on how you are getting redirected, and how often?

also lets take a deeper look at some things.

OTListIt2

  • Please download OTListIt2 to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTListIt2.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.
