thebutcher,

I'm not seeing anything right off but with word wrap on, your log is hard to read.

Open Notepad: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
Click on Format and ensure that Wordwrap is unchecked. If it isn't, uncheck it.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Then

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot (shut down your computer then restart it).
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
ok, here are the 2 new logs. i turned off word wrap too. i did not have to reboot, it got rid of the 11 entries when i hit the remove button. everything seems to be running good.

  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.

as soon as this problem popped up with WoW. i scanned my system with avast and it found a couple thing and prompted me to move them to it's chest. these items it found were from sun/java/deployment/cache/6.0. 20 items total got moved to avasts chest from sun java and 2 other items it found. i also ran kaspersky last night and it found nothing. i will mess with the java tonight after work.
ok, i clicked on the link you provided, i downloaded Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) JRE 6 Update 12. i uninstalled the only thing i saw in add and remove programs that had java in it. rebooted my comp and now my comp will not open and run the program i downloaded.
thebutcher,

We better dig a little deeper.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link –> http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Disable_…ams_t96260.html

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
5. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
could the reason my comp could not read the file i downloaded was because avast moved some sun / java things to it's chest? like i said before, there were 19 items it said it found and recommended me to move them to it's safety chest.
thebutcher, What Avast moved should have been contaminated files in the Java cache. What you are trying to install is a single installation file that you just downloaded. Doesn't need any other java file to work.
tomk,

ok, lets try this again. i tried to download JRE 6u12 at lunch. so i am now off work and wanted to start from the beginning. i clicked on your link, clicked the download you asked for and when the page refreshed, i was at the page to download JRE 6u12. but up on top i noticed something that said i do not have java installed on my comp and it wanted me to go directly to java.com to install it. when i clicked on that link, i clicked on their download tab and it wanted to install JRE6u12 directly from their site. so i did that and java appeared now in the control panel. i was able to follow your instructions to clear out the jave cache. i then ran hijack as you suggested and i found 3of the 4 items you had listed. the tkbell.exe was not there. continued to follow your instructions down to kaspersky. i had run kaspersky last night just to see if it found anything so when i went there tonight, i didn't have to install it. all it wanted to do was update my files. when it got done updating them, i got an error telling me something about not being connected to the internet or something like that. i tried 2 more times but didn't get very far and i was seeing invalid in the update window like every thing it was updating was giving it an invalid something. so i stopped that and continued on with your post advise. i then downloaded combo fix and followed your instructions. everything run smoothly. i now have 2 log files for you. a new hijack log which i ran after combo fix and the combo fix log it gave me. and like i mentioned earlier. i ran kaspersky last night for the heck of it and after it was complete, i tried to click on the log and noticed there was none. it said zero files found. now why it would not run tonight i do not know.

JavaRa …by: Paul McLain and Fred de Vries

Please download JavaRa (Copyright © 2008 RaProducts.org) and unzip it to your desktop.
***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!***
Print these instructions…you won't have Internet access during this particular phase!
  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English or the appropriate language…and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the JavaRa log, in your next reply.

Also let me know how things are running because it's looking good to me.
